Hello fellow writers and fellow aspies! I had a great idea for something fun we could do here on the forum, coming from my own creativity! You see, I am in the process of writing a hardboiled mystery noir novel set in New York City circa 1933, where a young detective who happens to be on the spectrum (yes it is an aspie story, three guesses why lol) and is rather famous at his agency for displaying very high intelligence and masterful detective work, is given the case to solve a string of murders done by a bizarre secret society who lures youths as young as sixteen to eighteen years old into extravagant hotels with the guise of one of them hosting a "social gathering" as a front for their cultist activities, some of which involve poisoning.

Detective Tanner Guile is this hardboiled young spectrum-goer, and he is willing to do anything it takes to clean up the act of the mysterious shadow society known as The Night Owl Club...

...and YOU are being given the chance to explore this lovely, black-and-white mystery noir nonfiction setting, with your own character, your own motives, anything you want to be in old time-y New York 1933, you can be so here, in a homely little slice of my novel that I have carved out specifically for you all to come forward and tell your OWN stories in the mean streets near Tanner's hometown in New York City!

Anything you guys need to know before you start, just reply and let me know below. Characters do not need to be approved, just describe who you are and go nuts! Also, if this takes off long enough, your characters will have a chance to appear in the final product!

So....

Where to, Mack?

Sounds so interesting. Right now my movie of my life is repair hurricane damage and fix a disabled car that l can't even open the door of right now. Otherwise, l would have a great charater with swag that has a dark stormy story to tell.

Take all the time you need. Remember, no approval needed, the minute you think of a character just write them in and roleplay to your hearts content!

I totally love this and as hobby writer myself would very much like to "join the club".

I'm just not sure how to do it?

What exactly do you have in mind?

In case you need/want feedback on your story, feel free to contact me (PM).

Whatever kind of character you write, here's the most important thing to remember.

It's New York City, 1933. Your character, wherever they live -- don't worry about realism with real estate, if you want your character to have an apartment somewhere just write a room number -- is living out a black-and-white noir style life with the simple goal of trying to survive in the Big Apple. You can be a rich guy, a mafia toughguy or a mob boss, a taxi driver, whatever you wanna be, just remember, the year's 1933 and you're in New York City.

Just reply below with a description of your character, and what they are doing, where they are, if there are any other characters how are they interacting with your character etc.

I got all that - but you suggest we write it here, so we can populate this 1933's NYC? Or is this more like a writing prompt for those who want/need a starting point for their own story?

Yeah, write it here, populate the city. We roleplaying here, mack.

Sounds like fun. Keeping with the mystery noir style, here goes:

My son died two months ago. Poison. The police say it was suicide, but I don't believe it. He had just gotten his driver's license and started his first job. He was so happy with his girlfriend, and they were talking marriage. The police are not pursuing any sort of investigation, and I think they are hiding something. His death took a while. He had time to rip off a fingernail and scratch the name of a hotel and "Nite Owl Club" on his arm. The hotel manager says he knows nothing, but he is scared. Terrified. He says my son was not there, but two of his friends saw him going in, in the company of some older gentlemen. His friends said they looked like money. It was murder, absolutely no question about that, with no reason. I want justice for my son, I want it bad, And I don't care who goes down to get it.

Detective agent Tanner Guile is strange. Brilliant, but strange. He doesn't talk much to people, and always about business, never social. His eyes are always wandering around, observing everything, but never looking at you. He has a powerful sense of justice, and when he gets going on a case he won't let go, won't give up until the perpetrators are nailed down. He's always solving cases the rest of us can't get a start on. When we ask how he does it, he simply says "It was obvious." And once he explains it, it IS obvious, but we just couldn't see it. That's why we keep him on.

If this is something you think you can use, feel free. I look forward to the completed book.

I came to this city hoping to find a job. Since I was six people told me I was good at writing. But my true passions are mysteries, and the occult. To be able to write an article about those murders at the Night Owl Club could be my breakthrough as an investigative reporter. Unfortunately, no newspaper is willing to give me a chance to prove myself. And without a press pass, neither police nor the people listed as witnesses won't talk to me.

Now, sitting on a bench in Central Park, I'm seriously considering going back to my little mid-west hometown and start working atn my parents' grocery shop. I'm wondering if that guy I overheard two officers talk about yesterday - what's his name? Guild? Guile? I wonder if he could be my last chance. One of the officers was joking about him, but then the other said many made the mistake to underestimate him. He seems to be a vtheery strange man, but also the one in charge.

If only I could muster up the courage to talk to him...

That is EXACTLY how I wrote Tanner to be!! How did you catch on to any of that?!

A tree a few yards away from a bench in Central Park was the difference between a youngster caught in a battle of wits and a more suave-dressed gentleman behind it, having watched him sit on that bench for the past ten minutes or so. When the right density of crowd of people walking on the footpath ahead of the bench came, he took the opportunity to blend in discreetly with the crowd, and, when it drifted past the bench, he stopped across from it, still out of sight but now able to be seen... And facing the youngster on the bench. He smiles and offers a friendly wave, though it's possible his appearance alone has already raised some red flags...

I simply wrote myself and experiences. You might also say "A lot of times he seems to misinterpret what he is told what he is told." Maybe I AM detective Tanner in another universe.

YES!! YES AT LONG LAST I GOT SOMEBODY TO UNDERSTAND THE LANGUAGE I SPEAK!!

I am certain of it now, I have found my calling!! I am an autistic author, and my mission is to write this and use its story to educate the masses about the benefits of autism!!

I don't know about you, but I am not a writer. I can do bits and pieces, but have difficulty putting a story together. I leave that to you. Your goal is laudable, very laudable, and if done properly will be of benefit to all of us here. Knowing the masses, I doubt it will make any difference or get noticed by them until they make it into a movie. And then they will butcher it until it is unrecognizable. I still look forward to READING the story.

As far as the request for characters, I must say I am disappointed in the community here. We are usually more enthusiastic about things like this. Come on everybody, let's all contribute to this worthwhile cause.
