Roleplaying

Can someone explain about how role playing games work on forums?

Let me summarize it briefly or try to show you.

Person one: Sarah was very nervous about the journey ahead of her. She was thinking about giving up on her journey until she saw her friend. She walked over to her friend.

"Hey Tom, I am so afraid about fighting this demon," Sarah said, "I can't do this alone."

Sarah was still frighten and wondered what to do. She was still nervous and afraid.

Person Two: Tom looked at Sarah and gave her some words of encouragement. He smiled up at her and then spoke to her.

"Sarah, you will do great," Tom said to Sarah, "I know you can finish off this demon. I will be there to support you every step of the way."

Tom smiled at Sarah and patted her on the back.

That is the best I could do, Calvert. The original poster might have a better way of explaining it or a better example. :S

There's loads of ways you can do it.
The above poster showed one way. Another way is the same, but instead of typing it like a story, you type it like it's actually you, so it'd be
*Walks over to xYoMommax/Chris* (Username or charactername)
Hey, dude, when are we gonna get going? I hate waiting!
*Turns around*
Don't worry Donna, we'll be leaving soon, I just gotta sort..
..Etc etc.

The way I do it is a mix of both. Mine is more like Pen&Paper roleplay, but online rather than in person, and it's me doing all the dice rolls. As the Game Master (GM) I tell the story, and the players have to react as their character, also telling me what they do about the given situation eg:
GM: You turn left and walk along the unlit hallway, only your flashlight beams breaking the darkness. Ahead, you hear a scream..

Character 1: OMG! (I turn to face the others) What was that?! (Cowers)
Character 2: Don't worry! I'll go check it out! (Starts towards the scream)
I might then decide that I don't know if the character would make it far, so using the character's stats, I would roll dice to see if the character was successful in the action, and then carry the story on from there, eg:
GM: Okay, I roll a Composure+Wits for Character 2. It's a failure, you only make it a few meters before the darkness envelopes you and you hurry back to the group.

Character 3: ****, what's going...
..etc, and it goes on from there.
It sounds hard but it's fairly easy once you get the hang of it, it's just acting in character, but following the in-game-guidelines you're given by the storyteller :)
And the character stats you make yourself before the game using a character sheet, which I can explain more about if you join in a game, cause otherwise it's a waste of brain-overlode :D

The game sounds good and I thought I just stick the thread to the top since it all sounds good, good idea. :D

Here goes my character:

Name: Ian
Player: LeroyTheMonkey999 - Laid back and pretty foolish. :lol2:
Age: 118

Does this count?

I remember years ago, there was a drama club at my clubhouse. We used to do a lot of role play. It was a lot of fun. :)

I remember about 7 years ago I was staying in Washington DC with my then girlfriend (I've had 2, one of which I am now married to, so if all my "girlfriend" stories sound like the same girl then there is a good reason for that :P ). Our favourite local bar had some very funny events on. One was the "singles night" which seemed to consist of very large American women of European heritage being avidly pursued by very small Hispanic men. It was great fun to watch, I love seeing people who are not supposed to be enjoying life having such a lot of fun (if you watch TV, only relationships between attractive people of a certain type seem to be condoned). The other was the RPers get-togethers. I have never seen such a diverse group of people. Looking back I guess it is highly likely that there were a few aspies mixed in with that bunch.

I have never played RPGs like this (only video game RPGs), but I'm interested in joining and try it out.

Would you have patience for on who 'types' slow? Also if you were a 'Warlock/Witch,then it would [theoritically] be possible to be '118 years old,and still have the vitality of a twenty-year old. It is containd in tha 'pacts you have made,or the spells you have cast.;)
