Every once in a while, I pull out one of the saddest movies ever made.

Grave of the Fireflies
Requiem for a Dream
I Stand Alone
Barefoot Gen
Sophie's Choice
Shoah
Come and See
Shame (2011)

I feel like doing that this weekend, actually.

Do you watch sad movies on occasion?

There was a couple of sad movies that I used to like, but I prefer them not to be sad. I mostly watch sad things when I'm required to and then it kinda brings my mood down until I can unwind from it .

Schindler's List
Cast Away
Forrest Gump
Twelve Years A Slave
Dr. Zhivago
Khartoum
Brian's Song
The Elephant Man
The Best Years Of Our Lives
The Green Mile
On The Beach
Titanic
A.I. Artificial Intelligence
Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf
Paths Of Glory
Gettysburg
Gods And Generals
The Blue And The Gray
Philadelphia
Bridge To The Sun
All Quiet On The Western Front (1979)
A Time To Love And A Time To Die
The Purple Heart
Counterfeit Traitor
Nicholas & Alexandra
The Snake Pit
Girl Interrupted
David And Lisa
I Want To Live
Blade Runner
Gattaca
Europa Europa
Birdman of Alcatraz
The Day After
The Hasty Heart
The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter
The Execution Of Private Slovik

That director also did Shame (2011) and Hunger. He is known for making very heavy films and for doing them very well. His name is Steve McQueen, not to be confused with the Hollywood superstar.

I can watch sad/heavy films, but I have to be in the right mood to watch them.

I remember the first time I watched Threads after finally getting myself ready for it...I still had to pause it a few times due to what was shown and I ended up feeling numb for a fair amount of time after it finished.

I have avoided sad movies for a couple decades now. Life is full of sad things and I don’t need to go looking for more.

I rarely watch sad movies. I prefer to watch something that will make me laugh or think, rather than something that will make me cry. But if I had to pick one, I'd say The Green Mile is my choice.

I have been trying to protect my mental health lately so I largely avoid anything that might trigger my sadness/depression/anxiety. Plus, I don't really appreciate my emotions being manipulated by media.

The last thing that was remotely sad that I watched was Inside Out, and the sad parts are not even that sad. Plus I find the Sadness character actually very funny.

Before that I watched the first half of True Grit (the Coen Brothers remake). But I stopped it before Blackie is run to death carrying Mattie. I know what happens but I don't want to see it.

Planes Trains and Automobiles is one of my yearly season favorites. Mostly funny, but the ending is sad for me, when Neal finds out Del is homeless.

I'm reminded of that scene in Gladiator when he shouts "Are you not entertained?"

People really do watch some somber and grim stuff in the name of entertainment.

I enjoy watching uplifting things.

I find it difficult to watch sad movies because I always cry, even when I promise myself I wouldn't cry.

The cartoons by Raymond Briggs really pulls at your heartstrings and I cry every time I watch them.

The movie Carrie seems to make me cry too. It then triggers depression. Although this movie makes me depressed more than scared, I think depression and having the creeps can go hand-in-hand.

The saddest movie one my mind right now is The Green Mile. It always makes me cry whenever I watch it. Another one is To Kill a Mockingbird. I remember reading the book in high school and feeling sad. Then we watched the movie, and it always left a sad feeling of injustice and despair.

The Green Mile is one of my all -time favorites.
Somewhere in Time also brings tears at the end.
I don't know if people consider it a sad movie or not since the couple is reunited at the end, but only through death.

Depends, if the movie has human suffering and sad stuff, but there is hope, and a good ending, it could be great, if its just depressing overall no thanks.

Whenever I think of that film, I'm always reminded of this song by Star One (with the song been based on the film)

Star One - "Closer to the Stars"

Lyrics:
I was born with no future, born to die without a chance
Well, I refuse to play the hand that life has dealt
I'm as good as anyone, maybe better than most

All they see is imperfections, not the strength I hold inside
I challenge all who reject the force of will
'cause if I'm not good enough, if I'm not real enough then I will lie!

I am a child of the stars
And you can't keep me here in a world I don't belong
I need to fly among the stars

We are all children of the stars
Don't feel I'm leaving, no, I feel I'm going home
I'm one step closer to the stars

They say I don't have a future, it wasn't mine from the start
I don't believe that man can live without fault
I'm as good as anyone, much better than them

I accept my imperfections, at least I have a perfect soul
I am the last to be born with free will
I've been luckier than most, not as lucky as some, but I will survive!

Oh, children of the stars, gotta fly, gotta fly
Feels like going home, I'm going home

If they take away my future, and deny me any chance
My imperfection is the demon here inside
I'm badder than anyone, more evil than them...

I can become triggered by women being abused, attacked, or worse. Also, animals being hurt is also horrid to me. In second grade, our teacher showed us scenes from the holocaust which was frightening, l came home and had horrible nightmares. I understand the importance of educating students, but maybe more like 5th grade would have been better.

I think a movie can have cruel stuff, but if there is justice in it, it could be good, movies that are just all emotional torture are bad for me. That what most people think i believe, when the people in movies suffer, you want vengeance, you want justice, you want that things resolve right?.
