It's My Birthday!
First off, a disclaimer - this is not intended to incite religious debate. I see this genre of music as being a form of theater to sell to angsty suburban residents. I do not take this lyrical content seriously, and I seriously doubt that most of these musicians do that when they are off stage, as well. These people are there to provide theatrical entertainment. In that respect, it is not any different than most gangster rap.

With that disclaimer in place, here goes.






I do find this music to be amusing in a juvenile middle school mentality sort of way.

Thanks for sharing. Dimming BorguerBorgir sounds like like Rammstein...which I like a lot. I liked all of these selections except the last one. Witchcraft Coven ...that is quite a fantastic female voice! (No different then Black Sabbath or Alice Cooper back in the 70s.)

I so agree with you about the theatrics. I had two boyfriends back in the 90s who called themselves “satanists.” It was nothing to get freaked out about and they were not dangerous to society. Both were definitely harmless white “suburban” misfits. A lot of unhappy teens also listen to this as a form of rebellion. Doesn’t mean they will turn out to be the next Columbine shooters.

I also love Marilyn Manson. Brilliant showman! Please share more of this music if you can. Love it.

I remember when KISS first came on to the scene and the controversy they generated. I knew that it was nothing more than rebellion and theatrics. But every Christian group was up in arms about this whole thing.

I actually remember seeing a sole Christian protester outside of a KISS concert I attended when I was in high school. I actually felt a bit of pity for him, seeing as he was subjecting himself to endless ridicule by a few of the less polite fans there.
 
Ha ha, yes. Remember Alice Cooper too; and Ossie Osborne (in his days of Black Sabbath) So many back then were riled by the antics of these savvy business- minded rock stars. Of course the New York Dolls, and many of the Glitter Rockers also upset folks. Marilyn Manson has been blamed for Columbine, and any other discontented murderous teenager, which is utter nonesense. He is a brilliant artist!

Heck, I remember (cuz I am that old), when Elvis and Mick Jagger caused moral outrages for their “overtly sexual” gyrations. Yesterday, one of my clients, who is in his 30s, asked me what band Mick Jagger was in!!!!!!!!

Also, Rammstein and Laibach get protests for their assumed political content.Anything can be misconstrued if you want it to be.

Full disclosure I'm a big fan of Black metal. I'm a very strong agnostic, borderline athiest, but I've always been fascinated by the occult. I think some of the bands listed so far are more on the theatrical side of things. Some of the more obscure bands or artists however, at least claim to be either deistic Satanists or or LaVeyan Satanists. Whether they are telling the truth or not is anyone's guess, although some claim to be agnostics & use the symbolism & themes of Satan as a way to express their libertarianism FWIW.
