Savage Garden

Wow, I totally forgot about them until you posted this. I can't remember if it was middle or late elementary school for me, but I remember them being really popular.

I vaguely remember the music, but I'll have to get nostalgic later and take a little revisit, see if it holds up to time...

I haven't heard Savage Garden in years, but now truly madly deeply is stuck in my head! I was singing it in the shower today because of this thread! :twitcy:

Hmm, this song isn't that bad... Surprised me, since back in the day I wasn't a huge fan.

Edit: Video struck me as a little obnoxious, though.

Thanks. In fact this Truly Madly Deeply brought me to memories, when I met a famous person with AS called Eric Chen (iautistic.com), and had dinner together; we had this song playing over the radio. Sweet person, even better song.

Well I also loved I Knew I Love You :)

"Truly, Madly Deeply" and "I Knew I Loved You" were two of my top favorite songs when I was a child growing up in the 90s. I was such a hopeless romantic back then that I loved all the sappy love songs that were popular during those days: "I Will Always Love You", "My Heart Will Go On", "Can You Feel The Love Tonight", etc. But nowadays I can't listen to these songs without feeling embarrassed.

I remember this act/band showing up in the charts. Hadn't heard any of it but with that name I kinda expected something less pop and more heavy I guess... lol

Their classic that almost everyone 5-10 years older than me loved:

I loved their music. :D
'Affirmation' was possibility my favourite of all their songs. I loved the lyrics and how they seemed to reflect on things that still affect us in everyday life, like the struggle to be free from debts or feeling ugly when we compare ourselves to Photoshopped images of celebs in beauty magazines.

Lyrics:
I believe the sun should never set upon an argument
I believe we place our happiness in other people's hands
I believe that junk food tastes so good because it's bad for you
I believe your parents did the best job they knew how to do
I believe that beauty magazines promote low self-esteem
I believe I'm loved when I'm completely by myself alone
I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe you can't control or choose your sexuality
I believe that trust is more important than monogamy
I believe your most attractive features are your heart and soul
I believe that family is worth more than money or gold
I believe the struggle for financial freedom is unfair
I believe the only ones who disagree are millionaires

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

I believe forgiveness is the key to your unhappiness
I believe that wedded bliss negates the need to be undressed
I believe that God does not endorse TV evangelists
I believe in love surviving death into eternity

I believe in Karma what you give is what you get returned
I believe you can't appreciate real love until you've been burned
I believe the grass is no more greener on the other side
I believe you don't know what you've got until you say goodbye

[repeat ]

Being an Aussie girl I heard Savage Garden a lot back in the 90s. My Mum was a fan (she was still in her 20s for most of my childhood) and bought their albums. I always identified with the girl in Moon And Back and even when my music taste went more towards alternative rock as a teen I still loved that song. Thanks for the trip down memory lane Geordie!
