Scripture and Taking Things Literally

I kind of want to start reading the Bible again but worry I'll take everything too literally. The Bible kind of confusing to understand. It's like a foreign language to me. How can I read it and understand it as a person on the autism spectrum?

i second the call for childrens bible, the language is easier to understand.
however you could go to bible classes for adults to which i intend to do.
im also seeing a priest to ask for advice about understanding christianity as i struggle greatly with it.

I grew up in Christianity, but the particular sect I was raised in turned out to be very cult-like. It was expected that you were to take the Bible extremely literally. This cause all sorts of problems that I am just now starting to recognize and repair. I agree, the Children's Bible would be much better at first.
