Seeking a place to feel like I belong

hi! Undiagnosed, with 2 kids diagnosed and a third I haven't figured out yet. Since learning about Asperger things finally make more sense. I really didn't get the life instruction manual everyone else got! Feeling validated, excited, and anxious all at once about being a parent with Asperger raising kids with Asperger and PDD and god knows what else. Did I break them? Maybe it's great that I'm their parent instead of a NT? Are we freaks? Are they making fun of us for not getting that joke? Act NORMAL! So many emotions and thoughts slamming around since a psychiatrist gave me the kids' diagnosis and told me I have Asperger. Hoping to meet friends and learn more about what makes me and my kids tick...and here to celebrate our successes and share with others who need encouragement. Good to be here!

Welcome, gypsywillow. You belong! If you are anything like me, you will find a great variety within the autism spectrum, and also lots of freaky, unbelievable, comforting similarities you never would have thought possible! You belong!

Welcome to the forum! Many of us here are Aspie parents raising both NT & ND kids. It is a challenge! For myself, as an Aspie with a very solitary temperament, raising kids required me to force myself out of my comfort zone & compromise a lot on my need to be alone.

I don't believe at all that we broke or break our kids: many NT parents have kids with problems that make being on the spectrum look insignificant. I don't think it has to be perceived as a deficiency: I see it as a difference. Anyhow, it's nice meeting you & I hope you feel at home here!
