Self-diagnosed, but certain and seeking official opinion.

Hello everyone! My name is Alicia and I'm 22 years old. Since I was 5 I developed a very strong passion for Psychology and everything involving the brain. Using this passion and knowledge I stumbled upon Asperger's when I was 18 and it immediately clicked with me. It seemed to explain all of the things I struggle with and brought about a sense of understanding of my own mind, which I felt I desperately needed. I really want to pursue an official diagnosis, as I still struggle with a lot of emotional and social aspects of life, but I can't say I need it to confirm my self-diagnosis. For all long time, however, I wasn't confident in my self-diagnosis, but as a young adult I now recognize my strengths and weaknesses as an individual on the autism spectrum quite clearly. I would really love to connect with other people on the spectrum, swap stories and hopefully become a part of an open, understanding community. [emoji4]
 
Welcome to AC. I too "stumbled" onto discovering my own autism. But at a much later point in my life.

Better late than never though.
 
Welcome. You came to the right place. There is a wealth of knowledge in the members here.
 
Many in the mental health field have conditions themselves. It may be a version of it takes one to know one.
 
Thats a Queen CD. I got to see them once... mmm maybe 78-ish... with Thin Lizzy. That was a good show. :cool:

Really???? I wish I was so lucky! Queen in my favorite band, but Freddie died a year before I was born! [emoji33] [emoji27] [emoji30]
 
I learned about having aspergers when I was in my 20s. My parents had me diagnosed as a child, but never told me. When I found out, I kinda pretended it never happened. I wouldn't tell people, because I didn't want anyone to look at me differently.

I find it cool that people embrace it now. I've learned that I'm comfortable in my own skin with who I am now and I don't shy away from it. Glad others are like me as well.
