Hi,

I've spent the last 3 years obsessively trying to find out what's wrong with me (chronic fatigue type symptoms), and finally stumbled over a description of Aspergers.

It's just so obviously me, and online tests agree.

I'm seeing this 100% positively.

Welcome to the club. Had a similar epiphany using the internet to find out, "what was wrong with me" 11 years ago at 40. For me, it was the descriptions of typical AS kids. I fit to a tee. I had adapted in many ways, and while very Aspie internally, did not appear so to others. But, I have no doubts. Best wishes.

Yeah, that's the same for me.

I have so many coping and camouflaging strategies in places I suspect my traits don't show clearly.

I can cope with groups of 3 people (just) but when the group gets to 4 or more I run out of my scripts and can't randomise them any more so I end up repeating the same scripted phrase over and over:D

What I thought was chronic fatigue is in part over stimulation and brain shutdown.

Welcome to AC. Yes, it's a journey of sorts. Not an easy one to make.

I didn't begin to figure it out until I was 55. You aren't alone here.

I discovered aspergers in a magazine and was so shocked with how similar the description was that I have been pursuing it ever since and did the online test too and came out as probably an aspie.

Have a psychiatrist appointment, beginning of next month, but to officialise social anxiety and perhaps, just perhaps, she will detect aspergers; trouble is, that in France, where I live, it is not recognised!

I do apologise: very much welcome to aspiecentral, that for the most part, keeps me sane!

That is certainly better than me. A third person enters and I am lost! I have no idea where to put my eyes, so to speak; feels like a tennis match and I get very hurried in my speech and very hot and red and just wait for the moment when I can escape.

Welcome! I am glad you are here and happy to know. For me it's been bad to know, but I am getting a lot of support here from people who feel all sorts of ways about it. I am learning it's a gift that sometime goes a bit awry but it's still a gift and I am learning to use it. I am not even sure how but I will figure it out!

Stumbled onto this site looking for information about my spouse. He had been just diagnosed with several other disorders that didn't seem to fit him at all. The more I read, and learned the more I realized that he almost perfectly fit the description for HFA and then I realized everyone in his family had traits.

Then I realized everyone in my family had many of the traits. Then I discovered that I had many of them as well. It was both a shock and a final discovery, that helped a great deal with understanding both myself and my spouse.

Funny - I've beaten a lot of social anxiety through repetition (small groups only!), but I still get it a bit on internet forums like;

"Oh No, I've liked more than one person's post, which means 1/4 of all the posts on this page: I'd better like them all so no one thinks I didn't value them!"

Then I've liked every post and I'm sat here thinking; "what on earth am I doing?"

Have I met my "twin" lol. If the internet had been around when I was in my 20's, which was in the 80's, I would not even dare go online to social medias, so have improved and yes, I feel embarrassed when I like one post and not another and think they will feel sensitive and if I can find something to like, I will just like for the sake of it and if I cannot find anything, then I will unlike the one I liked.

On another forum called: Yahoo Answers, even today and I have been using the site for over 14 year's now, I still can feel a sense of panic, when my answer is the only one or even the first one; I have to stop myself from deleting.

Welcome to the site, my Asperger's was discovered by the therapist we went to see to get our marriage off the rocks. She diagnosed me and the online tests I took after the fact just proved it even further. When my therapist and I discussed my childhood and what I remembered thru my struggles in middle and high school, it was very clear that I was Aspie. I am sure you will be doing lots of reading and learning now. Mike

Haha! I love this!! I truly had to like it. :-)

It get's worse.

After I liked all the posts I though "Oh - now I can't give extra likes to the ones I liked the best".

So now those replies that added extra value have no way of knowing or being rewarded!

When I was first learning to blend in I can remember leaving a room with about 6 or 7 people I'd just met.

But what's the protocol about shaking hands when you leave? No one ever told me!

I shook one person's hand and then another, and then panicked and went around the room shaking every hand there before rushing out the room.

I must have looked demented. :D

I am so like that myself!

Hello from streetwise I just say sort of blend but portray the over friendly spaniel /desperate.
Phone conversations are another universe as I can't see a face. I suffer from panic disorder so I'm sort of spaced most of the time. it's worse with the cats that live with me, they've learned to tell me enough -very good at that
I have the idea that the people im reading about know whether I've liked them even if I don't indicate it .
I laughed reading this post -we're clones walking in different places on this planet .

Usually you are supposed to say goodbye to the person who invited you and perhaps the person who arranged the get together if they are not the same individual. If you know someone else as an acquaintance then you might also say goodbye by waving as you go. Now I know why my spouse goes around and does exactly what you did.:) He did it at a wedding we were invited to of several hundred people.

I get along ok now, but leaving people and ending conversation is probably my weakest points.

I can't tell when a conversation has ended, and often seems like the other person is just waiting for me to do or say something.

I think I get it right more often than not, but it's all a guess really.

Regarding the clones; it really feels like that to me too. I was reading about aspergers, thinking "this sounds so much like me", then I read "often called wrong planet syndrome".

I just laughed and I knew for sure.

Welcome aboard :) I am glad you are a part of the community!
Best wishes
