Should I apply to local clothes shop Peacock's?

I'm not really a clothes shop fan to be honest, but the job is a 4 hours a week contract, including Saturdays and Sundays which could throw up a potential issue regarding my care but I'd sort that somehow.

Obviously I'm looking for work at the moment, but I can't find anything that comes under the 16 hour limit while I'm claiming Employment Support Allowance because I can't afford to lose everything if I get sanctioned for working too many hours.

All I'd need to do is take a copy of my current CV and a cover letter into the shop. However, i can't print out a new copy of either at the moment because annoyingly my Printer at home has died.

I wouldn't mind but I've only had it about 6 months and it's on a 2 year warranty.

Might be worth giving it a shot, considering how rare it probably is to find limited work hours that don't inherently violate the terms of your ESA benefits. Besides, a paying job on your CV even if part time just might put you into a much better position to seek better work later on. Something to consider, anyways.

Yeah there is that, if I can find a way to do a cover letter and print out it and a copy of my CV, it might be worth a punt, at least as a temporary option for a few months.

That's a good way to look at it.

Did you consider deleting your HP software entirely and reinstalling it? That's another remedy HP has mentioned in their troubleshooting. Not my favorite option, but it might "flush" out whatever the problem might be. I just remember when I had such problems where at first I really thought the printer was kaput when it wasn't the case. Though I usually got it fixed in reiterating the IP address.

The Printer runs wireless from my Chromebook, so I don't think there is any HP drivers or anything on the PC.

And it prints from the Google Cloud, so I suspect that might be the issue.

What about reinstalling it to run from the USB port? I have my same printer using both Internet and USB and I must say, the USB install to my other computer works without any hassles at all.

I like running it wirelessly, but my printer remains somewhat finicky about it. o_O

Is there a library or a print shop, or office where you know somebody, maybe even a photo place, anything like that where you could bring it on a flash drive and have them print it for you?

I agree with the others, worst they can say is no.

That would be an option if I had a portable Flash Drive, I don't.

Best solution is to email both documents to me Dad and ask him to print them out and bring them down.

Go ahead and apply, if you were to ask me... In some situations a job is a job, best not to be picky... The worst they can say is "no", as someone else said

Legally they can't directly say no because I'm a disabled Aspie, but meh, I've been saying for years that the so called anti-discrimination laws in the UK don't mean diddly squat because the government don't enforce them IMO.

If anyone not from the UK is wondering, the company is Peacocks.

Good luck with your application Rich.

I'm not doing it, Dad says it's "not suitable".

This is a bone of contention between us, he's always said he does not want me to work.

I however, don't want to prove the Internet right in their opinion that I am a work shy slave to the benefit system.

Are you a member of a trade union?

They can (and do) bring cases to ET on the grounds of discrimination.

I've just seen your update about your dad not wanting you to go ahead with the application but you don't want to prove the internet right.

I say sod the internet. They don't know you. Let them judge. You live your life how suits you best and to hell with everyone on the internet as they really don't matter.

No, I could never afford the membership fees or commit to regular Union meetings.

Your dad doesn't want you to work, but does he want you to be happy? He probably thinks he's making you happy by giving you freedom from working. Might take some explaining but I'd tell him that you would be happier working and feeling a sense of pride in supporting yourself. And still go for that job. Say you want to give it a fair try, otherwise you won't know. I don't know your dad but I think if he really wants you to be happy, in time he will accept you working.

I know how you feel in a way, my dad is always trying to give me money for things and I don't want it. Even if I have nothing, if I have to go to a food pantry, or have to weld a car back together so I can get to work, I believe in supporting myself and don't want charity. But he is proud of all I have done.

You don't have to attend meetings. They're not compulsory.

The membership fees set in relation to what you earn. At the moment, being on ESA and having not been a TU member prior to receiving ESA, I don't believe you can join at that point; however should you be successful with your job hunting, the membership fees are set according to your earnings.

Being a TU member affords you representation and legal cover and you can remain a member whilst unemployed post employment membership (for a period of time).

Your comment about discrimination law is incorrect. When there is clear evidence of discrimination, those cases can proceed. There has to be evidence; not perception.

That's what's wrong with the law IMO, if I feel I've been discriminated against, the onus is on ME to prove it.

Hence they get away with it because I can't afford Lawyers and stuff to go to Court over it.

Of course you have to have proof. And a lot of time, people DO have proof and they win their case. No proof would mean the discrimination bandwagon would be full of freeloaders.

That's why I asked if you were a TU member, then your legal fees are covered.

We talk about this often at work. Most smart employers will word it as generic as possible, mentioning nothing of a disability. Say it just wasn't a good fit for the company.

Just me but I'd hate working for someone who didn't want me and I fought to get my job back. I can bet they would make my life miserable every day. I'd rather just look for something else.

But I wouldn't worry about that right now. If they really want to get the position filled efficiently, they're going to hire the best of the applicants that they get. You'd be surprised the people who show up for interviews drunk or on recreational drugs, or don't even really want to work anyway. So just be the best you can be.
