Should I go back to the Oxfam Bookshop in Town?

Up to May 2016 from November 2015, I worked half a day a week in an Oxfam bookshop on West St in the City Centre, I really enjoyed the work, but I was forced to leave on safety grounds because 1) The shop itself got burgled in broad daylight, and 2) I was personally attacked by a hoodie wearing idiot outside the shop while waiting at the Bus stop for my carer, and it took the useless social worker 2 weeks to pass on the CCTV to the Bizzies so the guy got away with it because although there was definitely evidence of an "incident" outside the shop, the footage was too old to identify the culprit!

So anyway, 2 years later the shop are advertising for volunteers, could I go back given my struggle to find paid work? Even given the 2 main reasons I left in the first place?!

It sounds as if you did nothing personally wrong so I would try and see if they'll let you go back.

What would compel you to take a job at no pay that involves a certain degree of personal risk?

Perhaps you should be asking why you would even be entertaining such a decision in the first place. With an understanding that having a job alone doesn't inherently validate you as a person.

I think it's important to find something you are happy doing. Maybe keep a can of pepper spray on you? You're the only one who can weigh the risks versus what it means for you.

If the two unpleasant incidents you mentioned are due to the store being in a "bad neighborhood", possibly don't go back. If the store is in a decent neighborhood, sure, go for it.

A robbery or an attack can happen anywhere. Every time you get up in the morning, you roll the dice.
