Silly Things That You Were Afraid Of When You Were Nine...

You know, that one lady we met that one time.

I saw this meme online and it hit hard. I was hopelessly afraid of all these things and more.

I believed they were everyday dangers, that lurked around every corner.

What other silly things were you afraid of when you were young? Let's keep this list going.

Supernovas

Crawling through The Sahara, while crying out "Water... Water..."

Being gifted a Mogwai and getting it wet.

Every time we went to the mountains, I was afraid a bear would steal my picnic basket.

Tasmanian Devils

Abominable Snowmen

Darth Vader

Anyone with a chainsaw (Friday the 13th had recently came out, and while chopping firewood, it delighted my male cousins, and sometimes my dad, to rev the chainsaw like Jason does in the films). Just seeing a chainsaw sitting on the covered porch was enough to give me an asthma attack! lol

Deciduous trees in the winter, when they're leafless.

The thought of falling through ice or freezing to death in cold water.

When Elmira Gulch stole Toto in her bicycle basket. (Wizard of Oz).

The concept of time, esp. how time began.
Timepieces, esp. Grandfather clocks.
Eternity.
The size of the universe.

Inanimate objects coming to life.

Identical twins, esp. conjoined twins.

The Wizard of Oz is totally a horror movie for little kids! Do you remember that really scary sequel that came out in the 80s? That thing gave me nightmares for years.

During the Floor is Lava game, we actually believed for half a second that the floor really did become lava.

I also remember reading this myth about how if you saw a person(usually a witch or something) in your dirty laundry or hanging coats or whatever at night, that they would become real if you didn't turn on the lights to confirm they were fake. That went really well with the vivid nightmares.

Growing up.

There is a easy way to get around this one, just do not grow up. My wife says that I have never grown up. I just found out about a little known law. If you get to 70 without growing up, then you do not have to grow up.

I didn't see it but my daughter saw it with her dad. She was already afraid of the original because she's had a lifelong phobia of tornadoes, people in costumes, and talking animals (the lion). She was very traumatised by the sequel being so weird, like a drug-trip.

She still can't even watch the first one.

The witch never bothered me, but Elmira did.

The Bermuda Triangle was definitely something I was afraid of too. And Piranhas.
I was afraid of everything as a kid, so I can't pinpoint just a few things. It's the same in adulthood tho

AS a kid.....

Catching 'cooties' from girls

The closet door open at night while in bed - imagining monsters inside

Bedwetting

The bullies down the street on the way to school

I was afraid of ketchup for a long time.
I wouldn't even touch a plate if it had ketchup on it, when I washed up.

I thought it was boys' food.
