Singing Opera

Does anyone else have moods where they like to sing opera. I often find it exhilarating to hit the high notes as I sing in this style sometimes making up the lyrics as I go other times singing along with a recording. People have told me that I am pretty good at opera but I don't do a lot of it except when by myself because the same people don't really like opera music. In fact I do not personally know anyone besides myself who does.

Yes.
The last time, however, was in the music session of my music therapy group. Another participant was playing a lovely classical piece on the piano. I couldn't quell the urge to sing along (I am quite the improvisation artist) and it came out operaretic.

I actually like opera do not listen to it often wife thinks it's crap. I'm even aware of the history background socializing
hundreds of years ago in smoking and drinking clubs. Boy have times changed.

I can't stand traditional opera but I do like rock operas.

A lot of Australia's better singers, even in hard rock, have had opera training and it shows both in their voice control and their onstage animation - it transforms them from being just a singer to being an entertainer.

Most rock music bothers my nerves. I like the smoother sound of classical type music. I also like some types of upbeat traditional folk music styles but that does not really overlap with the opera topic at all apart from being another music style.

My cousins have good voices he has no training. She sings professionally for a classical choir has for years auditions
yearly.

Tommy, the rock opera by the Who. I was working a bit on the Pinball Wizard.

As a kid it was like a game but I think it was like a stim as well. Opera vibrates the throat in ticklish ways. I love to howl too, and bark.

I am a terrible singer - can't carry a tune in a bucket, as they say. But I like to sing. One of my favorites is the songs from Fiddler on the Roof.

@Mary Terry I have watched that about three times I think. Which one of the songs are you referring to?

I don't sing opera specifically... but sometimes you can hear my "Phantom of the Opera" blocks away. At one time, I was able to hit Micheal Crawford's high notes, (Music of the Night) but that takes months of work to get there and regular practice to stay there.

I don't always stick with male singers. I did Liza Minelli's "Cabaret" in a theater (Yes, it was nude theater. LOL!) once and got a standing ovation. I have no problem playing a female character. The high point of my singing noncareer.

What good is sitting alone in your room?
Come hear the music play
Life is a cabaret, old chum
Come to the cabaret

I never liked opera. It even scared me a little when I was a child. I disliked the sound of opera singing because it seemed loud. Soprano voices in particular sounded like screaming to me. (Can you imagine if opera singers spoke the way they sang?)

But I’ve always loved to sing. I prefer to sing in my own voice. I can also do a rock or pop voice. I’ve always sung to myself. When I was little I liked to do song and dance routines, even if not for an audience. I always enjoyed music class in grade school - I even sang in the school choir. I started doing Karaoke virtually during the pandemic, and now it’s become one of my hobbies.

My colleague at work would sing along the songs on the radio and it used to calm my anxiety.
