Socialising? Bring it on!

Calvert

'Bout Ye?
I had a great day on Monday and was socialising more than usual. Here's what happened:

Me, my brother and three friends went to Bangor for the day. We stopped of at the food court of a shopping centre first. During this time I was just my usual quiet self and didn't speak much. Afterwards, we went down the harbour/pier w.e it's called to see the Ulster's Strongest Man Competition that was taking place there - basically these muscle men do various challenges and races to gather points, the most overall points wins. At the start I was quiet and focused n watching the event - taking video as well - but gradually I started to engage in small talk with my friends. Throughout the competition, there was this weird like carnival type music that kept playing. Every time that it played we would stop and look at each other, saying something like "Not again!" and then burst out laughing. This created more small talk.

Once the first half of the competition was over we all went around to the park which was nearby. All of us decided (I came up with the idea) to go on the pedal swans for a laugh (huge swan-shaped things that you sit in and pedal through water). So all of us went on them and were generally messing about/shouting/small talk and laughing at each other. It was great, so much fun, racing through the water and bumping into each other's swan. After that, me and one of my friends went towards the town to see the carnival. At the carnival there were different things like people in costumes, stilt-walkers, floats, carnival-style bands and some acrobatics. I didn't talk much during this as I was busy watching it and getting some video on my camera. After the carnival had passed through the town we regrouped to watch the second half of the Strongest Man competition back at the harbour area.

During the second half we were making more small talk. Some people from the crowd were shouting out stuff to the people in the competition as encouragement. It was generally stupid stuff and banter which caused more laughs for us. That weird music I mentioned earlier also kept playing which caused even more laughs. The second part of the competition was very entertaining and interesting for us all to watch. I managed to get some video of it as well so i'll upload that on YT sometime when I get the chance. Once the competition was finished, we all proceeded up the town and towards the train station to make our way home. Me and two of my friends decided to go to Pizza Hut to get food, my brother and the other friend had already eaten so they went on towards the train station. During or time at Pizza Hut the conversations started to get more serious. I don't often get to see my friends as they both work and go to college/University down in Belfast. We spent most of the time catching up on things and talking about different things like what we've been up to since we last met. I was actually able to keep the conversation up and throughout the entire day I was talking much more than usual which was great.

After Pizza Hut we re-joined my brother and other friend at the station to get the train home. During the day there were multiple bomb-scares so the train service was disrupted and half of the line was closed. We had to get off at Lisburn and get a bus the rest of the way home. In one view that sucked but in another it was good because during our wait for the bus we started even more small talk and had some laughs playing these stupid mind games. Our bus driver turned out to be an Irish man from the Republic (most likely hired for the day due to the disrupted services) he had a funny accent and didn't know were to go since he wasn't from here. Add to that the fact that the motorway was now closed due to another bomb-scare, it was just chaos. People on the bus had to direct him were to go and we got stuck in traffic for a long time since he couldn't use the motorway. Thank goodness I brought my Walkman.

So all in all a very long and good day. Conversations, fun, laughter and finally disaster. Such an event filled day, I don't think I was bored for one moment. I took videos of us on the swans, at the competition and of the carnival which i'll upload to YT when I get the chance.  So much happened on that day that I was very tired when I got home. We had been socialising for nearly the whole day.  :D

I think my social skills are improving.   B)

You have no idea how happy I was while reading your post, Calvert. Finally someone wrote how good day they had! I hope people would write more posts like this in this Forum. Way too many posts here are about negative things and one`s life`s misery.

Anyway, I`m happy for you. Just keep thinking about good things like that and even more events like that is coming. Did`t I tell you that things will change into better if you want and allow them to?

Yaaay now that's awesome Calvert! (yet I wished I could of came).
Was it those strongest men that you see on channel 5?

Thanks guys for the positive replies! I thought it was really great and I was so happy that I was actually talking and socialising more than usual. Since I was making an effort to talk more, my friends in turn were talking to me more as well. Normally I would just stand and be quiet (kind of like a tag along) but it seems that I came out of my protective shell.   :D

@SB I'm not sure if it was that exact one, my friend is more into that sort of thing than I am since he does fitness training and stuff. I have seen the one on channel 5 some time ago and it was like that. The hosts were English and the participants were local if that helps any.

Woah, I guess it's the overexcitemebt which made you talk more, I guess turning to a mod must have also gained confendence in you aswell?

I've been talking alot more lately actually myself, especially when I was touring around London last week with my college... I started talking alot more, but then it must of been the good weather, apparently I'm alot more talkative on those sort of weathers. I dunno if that's just me?

Good thing is that once Summer hits and the weather gets better, there should be more times like this.   :)

I'm also trying to see the positive side in things as well. Like today for example, we were supposed to go some place but due to being exhausted from Monday it didn't happen as we slept in. Normally I would feel down/angry but i'm not. I've took it easy today and been on the computer. Tomorrow it looks like we're gonna do what we didn't get done today so it's all good.
