Chilly Willy The Penguin
There are many people in this world don't know what it like for people having reading, spelling and/or communication problems. There are people might assume the person don't want to learn or was poorly educated. If you are one of those people make these assumptions, you should consider the person background before making judgment. For example, myself, I have a language based learning disability (LBLD) as other may recognize it as dyslexia.
It can be very hard for me to communicate in written form. I need to spend lots of time of what skills I do have to improve my writing to the best of my ability. Though there will still be grammar mistakes, there will be people attack me of this in society from time to time. Other people want to try to help me don't understand it very hard for me to develop a new language skill. It takes me substantial amount of time to learn things. Majority people will give up on me since most people don't have patience.
Pronouncing written words I don't use in my life is extremely difficult for me. When this happens, I will just spell the word. Even if someone teach me how to read the word, it might take me a very long time to have it stay in my long term memory due to memory issues I have.
Me having LBLD made it difficult for me to get jobs in my life. Most employers won't give a person an interview if they know a person have a LBLD or some other type of disability. If I don't tell the employer during the interview, they will detect during the times I have communication issues and will not understand why. I had an employer wrote a good reference letter stating the great work I did and encourage the employer to see beyond my LBLD. Even with the letter, it is hard to find an understanding employer.
With all these difficulties above plus ones I haven't listed can make life survival skills very difficult.
Because of my LBLD, I need to build good relationships with people that can advocate for me so I can have opportunities in life that I want. I'm not doing some low end job when I know I'm capable to do much more.
I'm glad I finally found an employer that gave me a chance. Over the months the employer learned many benefits I can offer to the company.
I'm hoping one day I can have a nonprofit organization to help people with LBLD to have more opportunities in life like I was able to have.
