So, today was my spring Macroinvertebrate collection on the Pine River (as a measure of stream quality). I had two friends helping me collect and pick and who love doing the work. We were at the second site, finding interesting specimens when 5 guys in kayaks landed. They wondered what we were doing and we enjoyed taking them through how we do collecting in the most consistent way, and how it helps our state, and how data costs money. They thanked us and we continued with the work. Then, as we were packing up to leave they motioned over to join them. They had grilled Dogs and Brats and had baked beans bubbling away and had us join in.

It sure beat the bag lunches we brought and we ate our fill. That is when we found out the guys are from three generations of the same family who have tripped on the river every year. That was very nice of them and I enjoyed their company. Such generosity I find to be unusual.

Im glad you had such a good experience and that you took your time to share it with us. :)

Sounds like a really interesting day got made even better for both your group and theirs. Good to hear! People are maybe wary to share these days, this sounds unusual and relaxed.

Thank you all for reading I have been feeling so positive and grateful recently and hearing good news from people here too, that I just had to share. It is those little surprises in life that are so enjoyable that they make me want to treat people as well as I can.

This is a great thing really and the little things like this are why I refuse to give in to the pessimistic gloomposting that would convince us all otherwise.

From the nice members here that gift other members things and/or that made reciprocal other kind gestures or offers there, from all the volunteers here and elsewhere in our communities that do things behind the scenes to help others, including the average Joe or Jane's all over that sees someone in distress and offers to instinctively help with no charge or positive attention needed, and from those others in society who are really caring, sincerely positive or complimental, selfless and/or willing to make sacrifices or give good deeds for the good of others or all, and from all those who struggle but refuse to give up, and still dream, with dignity and hope still there, those I often see as surprises, in a society where the attention seems far too often on the negatives.

I wish everybody would recognize that when it comes down to our lives, all we really have is each other.
