Sounds that We Like

How about the absence of sound?

I just got back from the gym. I was alone and for some reason the radio was off. The only noise I heard was the radiator (or whatever it is) from the vending machine. It was the most relaxing experience I had in a long time.

Actual sounds I like? I like the sound of thunder. I like the sound of rain (as long as I'm inside).

It's sort of a cliche, but the sounds of the ocean. I've lived in beach towns for pretty much my entire life, and find it very comforting. I live very near a large harbor right now, so no sound of waves like I like, but I can still hear the sea lions when I'm laying in bed.

Rain on concrete. My favourite sound in the world. Anything to do with water, really - the ocean, a stream, a lake lapping, but mainly rain - I absolutely love rain.

Also, I don't know if it's the same thing, but I have this thing about certain voices. If a voice is sort of unusual, maybe a little husky, nasally, or at a slightly different pitch (and not too grating or overwhelming), I absolutely love certain types of voices. I have a similar thing with facial expressions, but in terms of sound, a voice that's just right (though I don't know exactly how to quantify 'just right') gets me every time.

I was going to mention the sound of rain but it appears that has already been covered :p

One sound I really like are the fainter sounds of birds chirping, especially when it is early in the morning. It's less nice though if it's a noisier bird and they are fairly close to your bedroom window.

The sound of water in a stream or fountain. The sound of wind, and the best of all, the sound of a fan when I am trying to sleep. It quiets my mind like nothing else.

Rainfall, waterfall....they're ambient sounds to me. Very pleasant. I go to sleep each night to the sound of a rainfall from a looped file playing from my clock radio.

Weeds being pulled out of the ground
Chapstick lid snapping shut
Perforated paper tearing- best thing in the world. I'll tear up all the coupons just to throw them away, because I love it so much.

I love the sound of the hot water pouring into my teacup slowly, also the sizzle of greek cheese slices on the griddle. Rain on the window or my tent. Snow or gravel crunching under my boots. I love the sounds of cookoo birds , crunching dries autumn leaves, I love the sound of cats purring or guinea pigs pipping in contentment. I love the sound of the xylophone in jazz too. Accents of south africa ,and uk Newcastle also sound of Finnish language .

Heavy rain.
Fierce winds blowing through the trees.
Horses hooves.
Soldiers marching.
Washing machine.
Birdsong.
Pages turning.
Kettle boiling.
Ladies walking in high heels.
Babies laughter.
Cats purring.
Silence.

I love the sound of -

Waterfalls
Owls
Buzzards
Foxes
Wind in the trees
Laughter
my cat
Singing bowls
Didje
My heart
Silence
The memory of the sound of 'I love you'

My family
Birds singing
Rain on a tin roof
Thunder
Frogs and crickets (sounds of the woods)

-Fan blowing.
-Train.
-Horses trotting in front of a carriage.
-A ticking clock.
-Ocean waves with a buoy and lighthouse (sometimes with rain).
-Rain forest with insects and birds.
-White noise.
-Rain with low thunder.
-Oh! I almost forgot - a babbling brook
(Not just a brook, but it has to be babbling. What does a brook babble about?) :p

(On my android I had apps that played all of these to help me get to sleep. Then I got an iPhone and its just not the same. I really miss those sounds.)

Steam trains chugging along.
Farts (I can't get over my fart jokes! :P)
Race car engine noises
Fireworks ( I'm a lover of the loud bangs :D)
Silent nights with the only sound being crickets.
Waves hitting the shore.
A Tui.
A good storm, so long as I'm not out in it, and it doesn't cut the power.

And then I also like the sound monstrous creatures in fantasy movies make. :)

Whippoorwills
The sound of a (good, professional) orchestra tuning
Gently flowing water
Thunderstorms, especially when the rain hits hard

Oh yeah, that's another one. The sun is just starting to come up here and the birds are singing. It's a very plesant sound. As for noisier birds, I really dislike the sound of a Blue Jay.

Oh yeah, those blue jays! When I lived in New Jersey, I used to wake up to the sounds of them making noise every morning. It was pretty much a running joke in our family about how loud they are. Thankfully there aren't any blue jays here in Las Vegas so I don't have to listen to them anymore.

Another annoying sound I remember in New Jersey was woodpeckers pecking on the roof of our house in the morning during mating season. It literally sounded like somebody was drilling into the roof of the house.
