Speech Troubles

When it comes to writing and reading to myself, I have never had any issues other than numbers. I flip numbers around all the time. When I'm having a conversation I'll be in the middle of a sentence or word and I'll catch on the word and then it's as if I forgot how to talk entirely and it will be like that for a few seconds or for the record time of two hours. I'll try to talk and I'll stutter on the first letter a few times and then it'll go away again. I've always had this problem, but I've found it's getting worse as I get older. It's gotten to the point where people, like my supervisors at work, are pointing it out. Lately I've been trying to avoid talking to people outside my comfort zone (aka my roommate and my brother) altogether. I think the worst part of it isn't the actual incident itself, it's when people either don't understand and get mad at me for not talking, like in meetings where I'm expected to participate, or the fact that a lot of my teammates will laugh at me about it. Does anybody else have that problem or know what it could be?

Sometimes, when I'm speaking, my mind kind of blanks out and there's nothing there, what I wanted to say has gone and I stop in mid sentence. I stutter sometimes, too. It doesn't last as long as two hours - usually I start again after a couple of seconds and continue, but it can take that long to remember a word or something I was trying to remember.

My best time for thinking is 4am when I wake up with a completely clear head - I can remember all sorts of things and details very clearly.

Recently, I have found that it helps to speak slowly, not to try and speak too fast. I mainly have problems when I try to speak at the same time as the thought. That's when I jumble things up. Conversely, sometimes it's the thought I lose when speaking - that's when I blank out.

I'll do the same thing where I'll forget words as I'm talking but that's a while different situation that I can usually get around by using the synonyms or something. When I can finally talk after an episode it's usually slow and methodical otherwise it'll probably happen again or I'll stutter and end up getting laughed at. I'll be mid sentence Ann's someone will interrupt or something distracts me and I'll forget what I was talking about. Thankfully my roommate and brother are good at finishing my sentences and remind me what I was talking about. They've saved me a couple times in conversations with my bosses at various jobs.

It sounds like it could be a shutdown, where you stop processing speech or other sensory information.

I do have this issue... Probably the most notable issue that I have anymore. One thing I can say, try not to think about it, don't feel sorry because it's not your fault. It's not to be ashamed of. It's easier said than done, but I tend to just laugh it off and move on.

I've had moments where I was trying to explain something to a supervisor, my asst manager came by and I literally just forgot how to speak. At times I've stuttered over our intercom, it's a embarrassing but it happens.. Quite often, but I try to maintain my confidence anyways.

Next time someone asks about it, or mentions it to you. Just be honest and tell them you have some troubles with speech, as long as they are not out to get you.. There's a good chance they'd understand and be able to work with you.

I do this fairly often, too, but it's never been for two hours at once.
it's part of your disorder, if you have constant anxiety it might get to the level where it starts to affect your speech to the degree where you can't speak, probably a throwback to protect you from being killed by a predator stay silent or be killed .

I've had many times where just getting myself in the mode to speak took every ounce of effort I had.
