Spoopy

As a piano teacher, obviously I need to mask in order to teach. Well, an 8-year-old said to me timidly, "I feel like you wear a mask."

And I said, "I am wearing a mask!" because I was.

Then he said, "No, not like that. Never mind." And immediately started playing piano in order to quickly move on.

I'm terrible with metaphorical language so it took me another 10-30 seconds for me to realize what he was saying, and I considered saying something but decided not to.

Do you agree that that's a little spoopy?

Next hes gonna stare into your eyes and speak some forbidden cthulhu knowledge or something :tearsofjoy:o_O.

Hahaha!!!! I’m laughing hysterically! That would be so funny!!!

It's okay. I bet you are a great piano teacher.

Uh oh, do you think what the kid said was bad? I actually think it’s really perceptive on the part of the kid and is even a great compliment to Fino. I love when I meet people who see through my masking. Maybe the kid will be the next Rachmaninoff.

When people mask around me (usually for non-autistic reasons*), it feels like the "uncanny valley" effect.
(I usually see through autistic masks.)

*Like narcissism or Antisocial Personality Disorder. Their presentation is inconsistent with their trajectory (besides other glaring self-inconsistencies).

Can you explain more what you mean?

Either that or quote a horror film like saying "I know what you did last summer" or "I see dead people".
(That would freak me out if that happened).

Uncanny Valley
When you talk to a real person, you expect to see subtle facial changes (even if you do not try to interpret them). Humans do this without even thinking about it.
Lifelike androids approximate those expressions, but they are not as fine.

Like the android concept, manipulators often exhibit a visual disconnect with their discernible agenda. It can also be betrayed by their voice attitude. It is often subtle where you know something is off but you can't quite put your finger on it right away.

Unpretentious NTs tend to be consistent on all of these fronts.
Unpretentious autistics might be muted in these expressions, but they are not self-contradictory.

(Fiction always has "plot" holes.)

"Spoopy is an internet slang term used to describe something that is 'spooky' but in a comical or cute way, such as a puppy in a ghost costume or a goofy Halloween video. It is based on a viral picture of a Halloween decoration that misspelled spooky as spoopy."

Why Is Everything Spoopy All Of A Sudden?

"Essentially, the word is used to describe something that typically would be spooky, like an image of a skeleton or ghost, but is actually rather comical (often because of how it is graphically modified or manipulated, amusingly captioned, or just plain silly)."

No, I wouldn't use the word "spoopy" to describe that
interaction with your student.

His observation that you seem to be covering your
genuine being, behaving in a way not quite true to yourself,
doesn't seem spooky or cute, to me, either one.

It makes me think of https://andersen.sdu.dk/vaerk/hersholt/TheEmperorsNewClothes_e.html

The little man is perceptive, but hasn't yet developed all the social filters.

Too bad it wasn't someone you felt comfortable joking around with. Then you could of said something like 'Ok, you caught me. Next lesson I won't wear the mask.'

There are two other things that an android does not typically do:
  1. Respiration &
  2. Equilibrium correcting for said respiration (if standing).
