Heres a question, how strong do your stims get, do you go from a mild hand flapping when happy to a full blown circus act if upset.
I only ask because my stims are pretty wild a lot of the time and if people were to see them not only would I be mortified but surely I would be ostracized as well. Because civilised people just simply DO NOT carry on like we do. None of my stims are sexual, a couple are vocal and a couple are self harming, but generally I can content myself with a few of the less outlandish ones.
I had an accident and was supposed to do hand exercises which is now the perfect cover for some types of stimming because if I get ?caught? I can just laugh it of as; ?the hands are hurting so I am doing my exercises?!
Whenever I am agitated my stims are harder to conceal and that may be adding to my avoidance of people lately, the auditory ones can be done in public, I just have to swap out the mimicry and weird sounds with doing impressions, making up songs or singing regular ones under my breath (do this with headphones on and nobody looks twice at you)
But lately my stims have gotten aggressive for want of a better word, as an example, say I go around tapping things, well I would find myself hitting things more often and louder or harder.
So I wondered how other people?s stims are held in check from escalating or do you give them free reign until you are feeling better?
