Suede

What is Suede, exactly?

Suede (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Suede's members (especially during 1992-4):

Brett Anderson (Kurt Cobain+Boy George+Freddie Mercury+Incomparable Charisma = Great lead vocalist)
Bernard Butler (best guitarist of the 1990's)
Mat Osman (cool overlooked dude)
Simon Gilbert (the beats behind the Suede sound)

I'm hooked to both Brett's words, Bernard's strums and Simon's beats... Mat is also good, too.

My first introduction to Suede was 'The Beautiful Ones' (clearly pop-ish without Bernard's guitar), which was a chart topper in Asian countries. Then there is the news of Suede re-groupng, and I thought they are the product of a bygone era.

Times have changed.

After listening to their debut album, I love the power in the rawness - of the grunge 1990's in a distinctive British way - the beginnings of what we call 'Britpop' today.

I don't think any other singers have art-sy video like Suede does, in their MVs.

So what do you think of Suede?

That's my favorite by them! I like some of their stuff, about in the same way I like lots of other music.

I too discovered Suede by their single The Beautiful Ones.

I discovered them about seven years ago when I was 18 and listened to The Smiths a lot. I was impressed with The Beautiful Ones and meant to check the rest of their discography out, but forgot. In either 2009 or 2010 someone posted a song by them on a forum I frequent and I thought "Oh right - Suede . . . I meant to check them out half a decade ago already". I was pretty disappointed that I'd waited so long to check them out as they're currently one of my top ten favorite bands.

Some of my favorite tracks by them are Stay Together (a song that the band disowned . . . which is strange considering that most fans, including myself, consider it to be one of their very best. The lyrics supposedly are influenced by J. G. Ballard stories which is cool), So Young, Pantomime Horse, The Drowners, Saturday Night . . . I could pretty much list all of their songs, really.

"We'll go to peepshows and freak shows,
We'll go to discos, casinos,
We'll go where people go and let go."

Suede are also one of my top ten bands currently. Suede also brought to me to more Britpop stuff other than well, Oasis. (I only listened to Britpop seriously since 2009).

All Suede videos are simply classy and beautiful... and there's the indisputable sexual charm exuded in every video

Theyre definetly something different. But in a good way. They seem to focus on a physical "image" too, which I usually despise when I band does this (Kiss, Motley Crue, early Pantera) but since I was watching these videos its pretty obvious that theyre image is meshed into theyre sound. THAT is something I can respect :)

Their music is quite good: it's said that Bernard Butler is the most under-rated guitarist in the 1990's. And Brett Anderson can actually sing quite well, in his unique, what, thin high pitched voice.

All beautiful :)

We've got different taste in music but I can admit I totally respect your choice of music :)

It's ok to be different...

If we listen to the same types of music, then I guess I'll be your little brother? Lol

What's there to listen in small towns? Definitely different from a big city, no?

You'll be surprised, though, that you may like some of the music I like.

It's a shame that Suede are virtually unknown outside of the UK. Outside of the UK their name Suede's name is actually "The London Suede". They had to use that name due to legal issues.

They supposedly were, at one point, a household name in the UK. But now they're what some people refer to as being a "forgotten band". I just read an article the other day that referred Brett Anderson as being "The forgotten man of '90s Brit-rock".

Thats very true, man. I was actually complimenting you. I'v been introduced to new films, bands, TV shows, and books through friends. Word of mouth is a great way to expand someones entertainment range

So do I in AC :)

Without Ian, I didn't know there are inspirational modern contemporary R&B songs.

Without Droopy, I didn't know Britpop is cool.

And without Aillas, I didn't know that rock can be as breezy as the breeze...

Of course, 2010Dolby, you really rock hard. I love them. Rock on~

But then well, as for me, I just listen to pop, rock, folk, country, blues, rap... whatever it is, as long as it can be hummed, sung or strummed. :)

Suede can do a little of all of the above except rap, of course :P

Used to listen a lot of them as a teen, late 90's. I still do, every now and then. Even saw them play live at some festival, I think it was 1998.
