Glenview, Ill. — An 18-year-old with Asperger’s Syndrome is determined to create a documentary aimed at helping others like him.
Connor Olen was inspired to create the documentary after experiencing firsthand the struggles that individuals on the spectrum have to face— when he auditioned for a school play and didn’t get in — due to his developmental condition.
His 35-minute documentary entitled “The Artistic Spectrum,” hopes not only to inspire children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), but also to educate the community around them about the developmental condition. According to Connor:
“[The goal] is to reach out to kids who are on the spectrum and tell them that they are not alone and that they are worth something. Even if they believe the contrary.”
Helping out Connor for his inspiring documentary are two well-established entertainment industry veterans: Chicago Consortium Partner and Director of Content Jim Olen— who also happens to be his dad— is the executive producer of the documentary, while Mary O’Donohue— who was a postproduction supervised for Oprah Winfrey’s show for a long time— is co-director of the project. She also happens to be Connor’s mom.
Connor hopes to fund “The Artistic Spectrum” through an Indiegogo campaign, where he so far received $2,000 of his $55,000 goal.
