Telephone Manners

Well, there are a lot of Neurotypicals who have bad telephone manners, so I wouldn't feel too badly about it. But what do you mean by bad telephone manners?

When you say telephone manners, do you mean anything specifically or just in general? Give us some examples.

Well, I have a habit that kinda bothers me of saying goodbye THE EXACT SAME TIME as the person on the other end. So that's one I feel awkward about.
Maybe not so much bad manners as just sounding awkward, especially during a telephone job interview or something and I don't know what to say nd it's awkward and quiet and there are a lot of 'um's. I think that is what I mean just sounding awkward on the phone, and not necessarily rude or impolite.
Yeah, let's go with that. :)

Well, mine is that I may go really quiet or hang up rather abruptly. I hate just chatting on the phone, it's so uncomfortable for me.
I'm much more comfortable on a computer, where I can also do other things without it being awkward or weird for either of us.

I absolutely loathe, however, when people call up for no apparent reason other than the expectation that you should entertain them. On the internet it's not so bad, because I can think of something to say or say something extremely brief without offending anyone. But on the phone, it's like your put on a spot. I'm very happy texting is normal and cheaper, but even that gets abused in similar ways.

If it weren't for emergencies (I mean serious emergencies, or an inquiry that can be solved through a brief text) I wouldn't even own a phone. Now I just tell people it's too expensive, so anything that isn't important costs me a lot of money.

I do not like telephones. They are intrusive and force me to engage in a conversation when I may not wish to do so.

I do enjoy face-to-face conversations about, say, philosophy, politics, religion, etc but abhor "small talk" and pretty much refuse to do it.

I have a cell phone (for emergencies and work-related use) but it is usually turned off and few people have my number.

I prefer the computer as a tool for communication much better.
