Anyone watching this new tv show?

It's about a neurologist who hides her being bipolar. Interesting show....I find some parallel social dynamics to autism in this.

Mostly that those around her whether close or not, truly don't understand her. Insisting that she conform to their standards.

Yes I've started to watch this show as well. It's really interesting so far and interesting how someone in her position hides who she really is.

I've seen commercials for it, and it does look interesting . . . I may need to jump in too. :)

I have no idea how the show is being received by the public or the medical community. I'm interested though in what appears to be a trend in shows with protagonists having some kind of neurological issue and yet being able to function in what is sometimes a very hostile environment.

Which oddly enough, sounds a tad familiar. Oh...and I like her interaction with her therapist, played by Vanessa Redgrave. Who may or may not know all her "secrets".

Hmm, is this making people aware of issues? I suppose it all helps educate NT's. Entertainment is the best way to inform. As long as it does the informing bit too! ;)

I'm afraid that's a dynamic in the US you have to take with a dump truck load of salt. Whether it's a drama, comedy or reality tv show it's always going to be entertainment that is $ought over enlightenment by a substantial margin.

My attitude though is some enlightenment is better than none at all. Our society's stigmatization of mental health issues is horrendous. We need to start somewhere in fixing this. However the scary part (as always) remains the gap between Hollywood and real medical information.
