The Land Beyond the Bridge

(An exercise in imagination.)
Beyond this bridge you’ll find a place where anything is possible. What lies beyond the bridge is determined by the one who crosses it. If you have the courage to walk across it, you will find yourself in a land that you have dreamed of and wanted to see. Do you dare to cross the bridge? Do you care to tell us what you see?

For me, I see a place where dragons are real, but they are wise and gentle. It is a place of twilight where there is just enough light to see the horizon, but not enough light to silence the stars. Far off galaxies look like rainbows in the sky.

It is a quiet place, there is no speaking here. Life has found a different way to communicate. It is a whole conglomeration of creatures that exist, neither predators nor prey. There is no hierarchy where there is better than or worse than, just differences all around.

There is a simplicity in life here, where there is little need to do anything but simply exist and consider the stars. It takes great work to care for the land, and there is great respect for the place that sustains life for all the creatures that live there.

Mine is not as imaginative, but I imagine a place where:

I can regularly talk with others about shared passions, express myself, and live without constant comments on every little difference I have. A place where people do not care so much about their self-image would be wonderful too.

Across that bridge I see sky and terrain of any and all sorts, with no definition of beauty as each view is majestic and spectacular in its own way. I see homes thus with all shapes and sizes with ample room between each for younger ones to play and feel free, but as each person across that bridge has hearts so kind the pleasure is in seeing each other neighbor too, with desires on sharing, learning and caring.

There is no standard for what is attractive or not other than kindness–as that is what that land across the bridge is all about. Regardless of physical, intellectual and other mental differences, everyone is appreciated and allowed to be themselves, as everyone sees each other in a positive light. The ones on the current side of the bridge considered less attractive, less wise or less able, and with less money, are loved just as much across the bridge.

Everyone in this new land feels safe, happy and proud of who they are. Hate is gone. Division is gone. Power is gone. And competition is gone. We all work and be our best with what we have, enjoy and because of our interests–and from kindness from living in that happy, caring and peaceful land. There is a job for all, and a partner for all, and a safe home for all.

For me it would be a loving world. There is no more senseless hatred of people just for being who they are. There is no abuse. There is no evil. It's somewhere that everyone can be accepted and not ostracized or put down just for being who they are. LGBT people, people of colour, people with disabilities, etc. Everyone would be safe and wouldn't have to worry about being senselessly hated.

There is no homlessness. Everyone has a home. As everyone should. Everyone belongs somewhere and everyone has somewhere warm to stay in the cold winters. Everyone has access to food and basic amenities needed to survive.

Pets are well taken care of too. There would be no bad people with pets or anyone who would abuse one. They can all live happy lives with nice people.

We would have the technology to change things people don't like about themselves with no complications at all and it would be completely free. Vision problems, colour blindness, back or joint problems, hearing, unwanted hair, allergies etc. All would be able to be changed if the person wanted. If they didn't want to that would be respected as well.

There is no more pollution. We take care of the planet. We want future generations to live well and without worry. Everything is able to be recycled and recycling is made convenient and easy for everyone to encourage it.

Traveling is not restrictive. Because this world has no hatred or need to worry about excessive violence you can go wherever you want. You do not need a passport, a visa or any sort of declaration. If you have friends or family in another country that you would like see then you can. You will not be interrogated about your motives for travelling or what you have in your bag or the value of the items in your bag. You can visit those you love without worry.

There's probably more I could list that I can't think of at this very moment. Maybe I will edit things in as I think of them. The overall theme of what is beyond my bridge is a world where everyone is free, the world is kind and there are no painful or restrictive things keeping you from living your best life.

Both of these are basically what I was imagining too. A place where everyone is happy and loved and free to express themselves however they want.

And I will add @Kisa the tea ‘s post to this as well because that is a world I have always dreamed of.

Although some of the following are true at a small-scale, perhaps local or personal level, I am speaking from a much broader perspective.

I imagine a world where:
1. Human beings naturally, and instinctually, focus upon our commonalities.
2. Within the human brain, logical reasoning can override fear.
3. People are far more perceptive, almost clairvoyant, with regards to another's feelings.
4. People valued delayed gratification and investment in the future, over the opposite.
5. Educators and parents teach young people HOW to think, rather than WHAT to think.
6. Differences are valued.
7. Health care, health insurance, and all under that umbrella, does not have a profit motive.
8. So-called "white collar" crime is punished more severely than "blue collar" crime.
9. Human beings, naturally, and instinctually, focus upon positivity.
10. People understand their value and have a purpose in life.

An interesting metaphor. A few of us may simply consider such a thing as "an exercise in metaphysics". ;)

I've never been able to get to or cross that "bridge". Only to leave my physical body just far enough to stare at myself for a matter of seconds from just a few feet away. Yet I've heard of those who could use astral projection to get all the way across that "bridge".

What some of us might refer to as "crossing over", or "going home". But only on a temporary basis.

TW: Claustrophobia and Anxiety

At the Street of the Lifted Lorax

I sat in that weathered circle
of defeated, coal stained brick
and looked to faded grey sky
I knew how it felt, tired...worn
as I waited for white pelicans
to come, to finally take me away

Falling Through the Street of the Lifted Lorax

Quicksand torrent
there in that circle
of coal grimed brick

Straight down
in a madman's jacket
of nothingness

Terror in the void
no light nor air
eternity in sand

Touch the only
lodestone found
on the way down

Nose gains on toes
topside to toppled
wrong way round

Sands of time
in gravity's thrall
plunge in too deep

And find the sea
that flows on high
where constellations
reign in a foreign sky

While the journey isn't always straightforward, often times overwhelming, it can lead to extraordinary places. And the place with a sea in the sky has long been one of my favourites...and instead of a flight of white pelicans, I find something much more precious and impossible. Star Socks Fox.

It is easy to wish for the best for all, it is the right thing to do, but sometimes when the world presses in you can't do the whole world, you only have the finite, the consciousness itself and you just need an escape.

Some would see it as selfish, a world where anything can be, could be, should be...and you wish for something for your self. But there are times when that one small thing can make a difference...

When you are given a chance to reach the place you used to know, to the one place you need to be, and it is just where you can't get because you've lost the path...and don't know if you'll find it again.

Sorry, I tend to overthink.

Some place where i am able to support and make the people i love happy. Where everyone is able to understand and connect with each other without limitations

We have a little streamlet like that and put a small wooden bridge, just like the one pictured, accross it in November. But I never got to actually use it because in December a wind came and blew down a tree which fell on top of it and broke it to bits.

So I guess my input is:
Cross the bridge now! Before it's too late! But you may need to find another way back. ;)

Wow... See, the thing is, I am aware of other people's feelings already.. I am a natural empath and get sad when other people are sad, I don't just brush it off and ignore c:

Personally, I see any universe I enjoy, but they're all merged with each other. I like to imagine crazy things, collaborations with reality and fiction :3 I like how the two are often quite related.

I grew up in the Midwest and knew that story. It terrified me.

But before the trolls were mentioned, I would sneak under the bridge to my canoe and paddle away.
