The Rap Thread

I don't have a huge spectrum of rap music, but I have very particular taste with it. I would say they're things that are a bit more offbeat, but maybe it's not even true, who knows.

Remix by Danger Mouse: Jay Z's 99 Problems mixed with Beatles' Helter Skelter:

I was big on West coast rap for a while, but lately I've been favoring alternative rock over everything else. I'm not a one genre type of person, I can appreciate a bit of everything but I'm a bit picky about exactly what I listen to these days.

I used to listen to East Coast rap, but when hyphy came out, I just listened to hyphy and nothing else.

I began to listen to folk and country, but I still listen to hyphy classics.

I'm not a real insider on the genre... and thus my knowledge about the genre is kinda limited I guess. Some of my favorites might be kinda obnoxious, lol... or just blatantly stereotypical. I'm not to big on the entire image... the entire blingbling, lots of money, women and cars thing... out of all, I might settle for women (though not the kind of women that would fall for money, lol) and I don't care for the entire "status" as a style-element.

Also, I usually prefer rap as the source to make something "funny" out of it. Not that I dislike the genre... but I don't know, it makes good source material to poke fun with I guess.

I saw someone post NWA's Straight outta compton... I remember seeing a harry potter spoof of that song, which was pretty funny. Speaking of NWA... I do like their song **** the police. I like to listen to some random early 90's rap/hiphop sometimes. But I'm not really familiar with what I hear in general. The entire late 90's, early 2000's don't do anything for me. Funny that someone got into the "dirty south" style. I kinda like it. But moreso as a musicstyle rather then a lifestyle.

If I browse through my mp3 collection and look for anything rap/hiphop related, I stumble upon the following; Boondox, Insane clown posse, MC Frontalot & MC Router. All 4 which can't be taken to seriously, whereas the last 2 are in the "nerdcore" subgenre. Anyone unfamiliar... it's basically rap/hiphop with rather... you guessed it, nerdy topics/lyrics, rather than the hood. Which probably relates more to me + that I like allusions and those kind of references a lot. Best known example for a style-blueprint would probably the "White and Nerdy" song by Weird al
