The wind is howling again

I can feel my heartbeat increasing, my breath too.

I'm trying not to freak out.
My whole body is trembling and I just want to run away but there's no place to run away to.

My safe little corner of the world doesn't feel safe at all right now.

I pray and then stuff my ears with my earbuds, blasting sound into them to drown out the wind.

Tomorrow I'll have an earache and my balance will be off.

Sorry that's happening. I am on my anchored boat listening to the wind sighing on the cypress trees. Very relaxing. Wish I could send you some of that.

I can relate. I use good foam ear plugs and turn on things that make backround noise like fans, airconditioners, etc.

Are noise canceling earbuds better than the headphones?
I'm trying to make a decision.
Thank you.

Hearing specialists dont tend to like earbuds as theyre too close to the eardrum/ little hair cells that vibrate to hear, and the buds are trebly which is not good for hearing over time. Headphones are a bit better.

I find my over-the-ear noise cancelling headphones to have superior noise cancellation as compared to my noise cancelling ear buds. It's nice to have both to change it up because I use them so often, but if I want true noise cancellation, I reach for my Bose "electric earmuffs."

Headphones are better if, for no reason, sticking things into your ear canal is generally bad for you. If I put in ear plugs for more than an hour or so my ear canal gets irritated and starts producing fluid.

The wind is dying down.
I managed to fall asleep for about 4 hours, but woke up screaming.

Hadn't done that in ages...

Thank you everyone for your advice.

My AirPods Pro's have been amazing. The almost cancel out the sound of my air conditioner. I was once on an empty bus that stopped by a middle school and it filled with about 60 children screaming and hitting and when I put the AirPod Pro's in, about 80% of the noise disappeared. I put them in when I wake up and wear them sometimes when I fall asleep at night. I got a second pair because I do not know how well I would do without them and the second pair charges while I use the other.

That is terrible about how you woke up. I am sorry you had to go through that. Things can be terrifying when you are autistic. I am glad you slept so long. I never have, two hours is wonderful for me.

I'm sorry you can't get more sleep.

My sleep patterns are allover the place.
I can sit down to watch a video or read, or even do crochet, and fall asleep. Or lay down in bed because I'm tired and roll around for hours before finally getting some sleep.

I used to have nightmares constantly, and talk in my sleep, etc. Then for a while things got better.
Now I struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep.
