The X-Files is returning to Fox for six episodes

Considering it's been less than a year ago that I went through 9 seasons they're pretty fresh in my memory.

I'm interested to see where it goes, but I feel that part of the charm, especially in retrospect, the X-files had, was the still primitive development of the internet, no social media and all that. Translate all those things to the X-files and I'm not sure if it's going to be as fun. And really, we can't ignore those things.

Especially in the "now" where conspiracy theories are almost of the caliber of internet meme's rather than obscure things only a small group knows about as a "special interest".

Whoa, indeed, loved X files, but got fed up with how silly it became, but hey getting close in asking if hubby wants to watch, so this news is interesting.

Thanks for the thread

Great news. I'm currently just reaching season 3 in my DVD boxset so great timing for a revisit. I only have 2 concerns, six episodes doesn't seem nearly enough, and will the comics still be canon? I've only read the first volume of season 10 and didn't really care for it but Chris Carter was/is involved as a consultant and producer, it'd feel like a huge waste (not just of fans' money) to throw that away and ignore it.

I'd give it a chance. I was more of a fan of the earlier seasons and first film, and I'm a bit sceptical about their hopes for a second season, but it's an interesting concept.

Perhaps they could run with the holographic universe theory, and show that the reason governments don't care is because the people at the top know we are in a simulation.

Just sayin' ;)

Last I read, there's a movie similar to this concept... believe it's an indie movie by the name of The matrix

The Matrix was tedious, one of the few films I can't bring myself to watch again. For me, it failed on so many levels, but, humanity loved it ;)

I liked the original Matrix film, but then the 2nd and 3rd one seemed to try to ride on the success of the 1st. Maybe they did drag on a bit. I still watch them, maybe in hope that I will see something I missed the 1st time (or 1st 50 times, as I re-watch a lot of things) :D

I'm hoping the X-Files does not do something similar. I believe they can be capable of good things, after all, they had very many (don't know how many exactly) episodes, spanning a long time.

I still think about a few of my favourite X-Files episodes. They did some really good ones.

Will it be with the original cast? I have read in a few places and from interviews that Anderson and Duchovny can't stand each other.

I don't know, but really hope it is the same cast. I really don't like it when TV shows change the characters, but try to keep the rest the same, because it isn't the same if the same people aren't in it. What's worse is when they recast a different actor playing the same character, when it's not a case of time has passed and when they were young they are now old. That's totally pointless and totally annoying.

I'm very curious what Gillian Anderson's performance in this new X-Files series will be like if she's in it since she seems like a very different actor now (although one I still like), some might even say a bit more arch and pretentious (or maybe more stereotypically British than American to put it another way), see Hannibal or the UK/Northern Ireland series The Fall for examples of what I mean.

Great observation. I agree. ;)

I saw the first half of The Matrix on the big screen when it first came out. It put me to sleep. I tried watching it a few more times, with the same result. Eventually I downloaded a copy so I could pause it when I felt ready to nod off. It took three sittings to get through the entire movie. In hindsight, I shouldn't have wasted my time.

Yes they're both confirmed to return. I don't think the actors from the last seasons have been mentioned but I doubt they'll return. As for Anderson and Duchovny's relationship, I remember reading in interviews that it was simply a professional relationship. They didn't hate each other or anything but after working ~15 hour days for how many weeks a year it took to shoot they were sick of the sight of each other and so didn't spend their free time together.

It's also been confirmed that the new season will be both mythology arc episodes and standalone monster of the week episodes which is kind of worrying me. Assuming they split it evenly that's still only 3 episodes of each, which will most likely still be the standard 42 minutes. That doesn't seem like enough time to do anything worthwhile. You'd have thought Fox would have given them 13 episodes at least.
