Things I obsess over (sometimes)

This is but one example of something I often do... In 2009 I took a photo of a Trail Partner Sure Traction mini bike at a motorcycle meet... And, yes, I am trying to catalogue all car, truck, motorcycle photos I've ever taken

This one has me stumped... I did manage to find out that a company called Tredwell Manufacturing in Prince George, BC (Canada) made Trail Partner's until 1971 when they went bankrupt... Still haven't found any reference to a Sure Traction mini bike, did find a reference that "less than 1,000 were ever made, a reference to total production of all motorcycles?

Anyway they were likely so small of a company that hardly any historical references are out there for the company

Alright, I often ask why I care so much, it's not even my bike! But I did take the photo though, I might care more about proper identification than the owner of it, a person I don't recall talking to...

Repeat this process multiple times for other photos I've taken in the past of vehicles that are almost impossible to identify and catalogue...

Anyway here is what a Trail Partner Sure Traction looks like, if you even care ;):

I obsess about very specific things sometimes too. It can be frustrating for some people but I have a hard time getting myself not to focus on details.

Anyway, I’m glad to see you around here again. I was wondering how you’ve been doing. Hopefully good :)

And that is a very cool little vehicle!

Oh I have all kinds of weird, temporary, obsessions. For whatever reason my obsessions are always about boxes. I will get on a kick with one kind of box or another and spend hours upon hours searching the net for examples of that mind of box.

Sometimes it's puzzle boxes, or prayer boxes, or cosmetic boxes, campaign desks and there are many more. Lately it's mess kits.

Mess kits are little kits of dishes and utensils for eating a meal while camping or backpacking. Military mess kits are made of metal so that you can cook with your mess kit too.

The simple, humble box can be a miracle of engineering or be so poorly designed it is barely servicable. Boxes can be simple or complex. I enjoy the complex boxes best. How many secrets can you engineer into a puzzle box or desk with secret compartments? Can a cosmetic box be so well designed that it contains everything needed for grooming and beauty into something small enough for a small bag? Can a mess kit be designed to hold a tiny stove, serve as cookware and for eating too and be light enough to put into a bug out bag?

Oh baby, love me some boxes! :p

I saw a bike like that on a show called American Pickers, they found one in a barn and they said it was rare and they rarely saw those bikes.

But anyway, I do the same thing. I get hung up on something and put a lot of effort into it.

I am not sure when an interest becomes a hobby, then becomes an obsession. Surely, I have spent 10's of thousands of dollars on a wide range of things over the many years. Right now, it's my orchid collection. My wife, just the other day said, "You have an obsession.",...but as much as I like my orchids, it's not something that consumes my thoughts. I am interested in a lot of things and am constantly on the internet researching the "topic of the day". In fact, I think the only thing that I am truly "obsessed" about is obtaining knowledge.

I've been around every day... Just not posting all that much...

Such a progression can sometimes simply take all the fun out it. Something that happened to me over one of my oldest hobbies- plastic model building. Got too good, competed with other talented modelers, and eventually got caught up in my own OCD and perfectionism that has nearly ruined the fun I used to get out of it.

Actually I love researching stuff, even when it might seem relativly unimportant....

I'm doing the same right now, though it seems more frustrating than fun. Researching all the components to use in my next computer build. Complicated mostly by attempting to balance case and fan noise-reduction against airflow regarding the CPU and GPU. Turning out to be a bit of a headache.

Not to mention struggling to troubleshoot so many minor annoyances in Linux regarding this computer I'm on at the moment.

One obsession I havnt entertained in a while is clay texture tools. I have shelves and shelves of cookie cutters, stamps, hand tools. I like making things with polymer clay and the imprint of designs. Most of my obsessions have to have thousands of variations
