This is Stupid and a Little Gross, but May Be a Warning to Others

I bit the inside of my mouth a couple days ago.
Then I bit it again. It's really sore and looks like a crater.

Alum is good for getting rid of canker sores.

I know one family that used salt.
Their kids were really glad when I told their mother
about alum.

I exhibit numerous nervous tics, one of them being picking at the skin on my lips. Can that cause canker sores or any general ailments for my lips? I need to kick that habit before I ever get to experience my first kiss.

A true canker sore is a type of herpes family virus that never truly dies. It can lay dormant under the skin until something causes it to erupt. Illness, (that's why some call them fever blisters), and stress are the two biggies.
If they are popping up in the same place as they used to then I would guess stress is the factor. If it is in a new area then you have come in contact with the virus from something like maybe the keys you mentioned.
Most of us get them from kissing. I've had one in my life and it WAS after my first date kiss. That has been a long time ago and it hasn't come back. With all the anxiety I suffer, I don't know how it hasn't, but, I take a lot of specialised supplements that I feel help my physical body.

I have the same tic. I pick my lips or chew at them when watching TV or such. I also tend to lick my lips without even being aware I've been told. Both will cause your lips to become drier as it harms the small oil glands in them. Applying a lip balm that you find soothing is the best to do. With sensory issues you may have to try several to find the right one. Flavored/unflavored, etc. I like Lip Smackers as I like flavors. It is also smooth and soft so I tend not to lick my lips now, but, the picking and biting is still a problem. Keep practicing.

This morning I woke up with a canker sore on my lower lip. When I was a boy I used to get them regularly, but I’ve not had one in many, many years, which is why I was surprised.

I did a mental inventory trying to figure out how I may have gotten one and even looked at WebMD. I haven’t been kissing any sordid trollops, engaged in Frenching zombies or vampires, nor have I been sharing a canteen with a rabid mule. It finally dawned on me that I caused it myself.

One of my quirky habits is that when I unlock my Crown Vic, I hold my keys in my mouth until I get in so I won’t poke a hole in anything. You’d be amazed at how easy that is to do. I carry my keys in my left pocket, which happens to be the same pocket I carry a hankie. Do you see the pattern?

Well, I had a bad case of allergies the other day and used the hankie; I never use it, as I’m usually not far from a box of tissues. Suffice it to say that since figuring out the cause, I have liberally sprayed the keys with Lysol and have been applying alcohol to the canker sore, which burns like the dickens I might add.

There endeth Sportster’s embarrassing disclosure for the evening.

When I was a little kid, my mom used to tell me that canker sores were caused by telling lies. I can remember trying to figure out what I had lied about when I got one.

I suffer with coldsores, mostly around my nose rather than my mouth. My Mum also gets them, so I assume I caught the virus from her at some point in childhood.

Mine are triggered by illness, stress, intense sunlight and trauma to my face (ie when I had my septum pierced).

If I feel a tingle/burning/itchiness around my nose or mouth I immediately apply Aciclovir cream to try and stop it coming out because they hurt so bad, and look horrendous.

I'm not sure if canker sores are the same? Applying vinegar or perfume to the affected area while it is still blistering can help to dry it out quicker sometimes, but it doesn't always work and causes discomfort (as you might imagine).

Keep a tube of Aciclovir cream to hand incase you feel one coming again next time and hopefully you can stop it erupting.
