To all of us who have massive video game backlogs!

Let us start a mini community in this thread to bring up our completion percentages of the games we own!

Let us not spend any more money on additional games until we complete a lot more of what we already have!

Yes, I know, Diablo IV and Final Fantasy XVI are tempting to many of us, but we must resist their call for the time being!

Let us enjoy our treasure troves, like Scrooge McDuck diving headfirst into his vault of gold coins!

Yes, this is exactly what I've been trying to do. Stuff I'm looking to buy lately is all related to art and game-dev/programming (and some other hobby stuff) and it's all quite expensive (full set of Posca markers is what I'm after, those aint cheap) so I figured, okay... let's slow down on the usual Steam buys, as those other things are quite expensive. Though the exception (sort of) is picking up the occasional weird indie horror game, but those are generally free things found on Itch and are extremely short, like 20 minutes. So I aint counting those.

I will say though I already bought Diablo 4. Picked it up on release day. Yeah yeah, I know, but it was a special exception to the "dont buy right now" rule, it's freaking Diablo. But I'm gonna apply the same ideas to it. Diablo 3, I played through the campaign but didnt do anything else since I got distracted by other games. But this time, yeah, I'm gonna go all-in on the post-campaign content. Going to keep sticking with it. It's so freaking good so far.

What else... ah, yes, one of my all time favorite games, "A Void Rains Upon Her Heart", a couple of days ago I finished getting 100% of all the achievements. It only took 190 hours. "Only". I dont normally go for achievement completion specifically, but I made a special exception for this game.

Also went back to Minecraft, there's a ton of content that got added since the last time I played that I havent done yet. I recently found an app that enables things like toggling buttons on controllers, so I can actually play this now without wrecking my right arm holding down the freaking trigger to mine stuff. There's sooooooooooo much to do in this. I'm gonna go through the main content, clear the Enderdragon and the optional bosses, and then once those are done, it's time for huge adventure-focused modpacks. Also this game is so very much better on an ultra high-end PC that can handle a crazy huge draw distance.

Uh, there's also stuff in the big honkin' box of Xbox things my friend gave me. Goat Simulator 3 is one of them, I love that, that's getting a lot of time. I also started on Mass Effect! I've been on a real RPG kick out of nowhere lately. JRPGs sorta lost me long ago due to being way too easy, but I figured, let's try all sorts of other RPGs. Hadnt thought I'd like Mass Effect, but it was a gift so why not, started on it, and ya know what, it's darned good. I've got the whole trilogy. And it indeed does have real challenge in it. Also using the biotic spell-ish things is good fun, particularly when one of those that you start with is "just fling that guy through the air lol". Granted that doesnt work on bosses, but still.

And lastly, in roguelike land, it's Approaching Infinity. It's hard to really talk about the idea of completion with a roguelike though.

So those are the current things I'm playing through. Weird little indie horror experiences aside, there's no reason to go after anything else right now. There's so much to do in just those games and then there's plenty of things on the ol' backlog...

I was planning to pay some attention to my backlog, and then my ex asked me if I felt like having a look at Elder Scrolls Online again after not playing for a few years, and now I’ve spend 150 hours in game in the last 2 weeks. Dammit.

I hear you about not spending any more money acquiring games. The first step in tackling the backlog should be to not add to the backlog in the first place!

I've made a pledge to NOT spend any money in the Steam summer sale this year. That should at least avoid growing the backlog.

My second pledge is to avoid adding anything else to the "hidden gem game" backlog. I've been getting into the hidden gem fad the past few years and I think it has actually added more to the backlog than any Steam sale.

Not gonna lie, I broke the 'no summer sales' rule on some discounted gamedev paraphernalia (mostly hobby engines and IDEs), but I promise (to myself mostly) to do better in the future. The savings were just absurd this year.

I've never been much of a completionist, but I definitely want to make more time to finish stuff like Axiom Verge, Celeste, Meat Boy, The End is Nigh, etc. I also kinda miss playing around in Minecraft, Stardew and Factorio

Hey Metalhead, that's a fantastic idea! Building a mini community to tackle our video game backlogs together sounds like a fun and rewarding challenge. It's easy to get tempted by new releases, but focusing on completing the games we already have is a great way to appreciate our existing collections.

Now that I am back from my vacation, I am aggressively tackling my video game backlog. A couple thousand games, a couple of different games at a time, for the next decade or so.

I doubt I'll ever get through backlog. Too many gems keep coming out. If I don't play new things then youtube turns into a mindfield of spoilers.

I'd love to be able to join in with the idea, but my legacy Humble Bundle subscription tells me it's not going to happen.

There's also the games with "achievements" for failing, which I really can't bring myself to acquire, so those games will forever be stuck at x% complete, rather than 100%... One of the games I enjoy going back to every so often has 4 achievements specifically for failing "contracts" (1, 10, 25,50) out of the 55 achievements in the game.

Then there's the annoyance of games where new DLC's bring added "achievements" whether you own the DLC or not, so you're stuck with either having to buy the DLC and go back to a game you had already "completed", or have a suddenly "incomplete" game (based on achievements earned) added to your backlog.

It's like the game industry don't want people to complete their products...
