Toasting bread?

One of the things I've noticed here at Aspie Central and in my own life, is that there are very specific requirements for toast.

Mine have to be dark, toasted thoroughly with no sogginess inside.

My brother in law's have to be almost black and buttered with frozen butter.

My spouses have to be crispy and buttered and compacted with his knife before he eats the toast.

It has something to do with texture and the ability to stand up to peanut butter or cheese or jam without becoming soggy.

How does your toast have to be?
 
Im not too picky on my toast but I've never had many problems with food, aside for the fact that I'm never really hungry. I have my preferences but I'm able to eat things that I dislike (I blame allergies for this, my nose is always blocked so I have nearly no taste so many things taste bland to me anyway)

I dislike toast when it's still soft but I can eat it if need be. If it would be soggy because jam has been on it for too long and the moist would penetrate the bread itself I would not like eating it.


I'm probably contradicting myself a lot here but something I don't really make sense to myself either...

I love my toast to be Italian bread, with butter. Gotta be cut in half. Gotta be eaten WARM. If bread is a square variety, it must be cut and arranged in triangles! Customary hot beverage of accompaniment can be tea, or hot cocoa. Customary cold beverage of accompaniment can be pulpy OJ.

My toast has to be----whatever the person I am giving it to wants.
Toast = bread. Bread = grain. Grain = carb. Carbs = problem.
I like the smell of toasted bread. I would even like eating toast,
for awhile. Then there would be the afterwards, & I would regret it.
 
Mine has to be barely whatever would be considered done. Crispy on the outside, chewy inside, like a good chocolate chip cookie. No butter or margarine, putting on either peanut butter, strawberry jam, or raspberry jam.
 
I would probably lean towards toast on the lighter side because I don't like to wait for it to get done.
I would like heavy on the butter, and heavy on the jelly, all the way to the edges so no bite is dry.
One thing I really hate is when people leave toast crumbs in the butter container.

Agreed, although now that I am an "adult" I have moved to being able to have butter AND jam. Crazy, I know.

My mom likes her toast near-burnt. Her coffee black and bitter. Her liquor on the rocks. Her chocolate, mostly cocoa. Basically, she likes bitter and doesn't like sweet (or sour, or spicy...). I don't get it. She is definitely not on the spectrum. But she does seem to have some emotional and information processing issues (alexithymia, at least).
 
My toast must be lightly browned, a good crunch to the crust, but not too tough on the inside. If part of a sandwich, it must be tough enough to not fall apart as badly as "raw" bread. It must then be allowed to cool before butter, jelly, mayonnaise, or whatever is put on it so it doesn't instantly melt and make it gross or messy. Also, I like my toast to be cold because it compliments the temperature of the hot meats or grains I serve with it.

Toast with eggs, sausage, and bacon must be cold with butter and jelly.

Toast with oatmeal must only be buttered due to sugar issues.

Toast for fried egg and bologna sandwiches should be cooled first so the mayo doesn't look gross, and warmed back up again by fresh-off-the-skillet meat. With slightly melted cheese from hot meat.

How have I managed to miss the many toastesque comments you've been aware of? :D

I like mine lightly browned outside and soft inside and hot so the butter melts - but you've gotta eat it while the butter's still melting!
If there's jam, use less butter so it doesn't get all mixed up while spreading the jam as that mess just looks disgusting!
Sausage sandwiches, no butter, just cucumber slices and chilli sauce.

Because I only like toast made in a grill pan. The bread has to be buttered first, then grilled until it just has nice golden grill marks. I won't eat it out of a toaster, that make it too uniform and, it needs crispy and soft bits in every bite and, the butter has to be all the way soaked into it.
 
I like my toast to be as toasted as possible without being completely burnt, and I don't mind the odd bit of black round the edges. I don't eat wheat now so have wholemeal rye bread instead, which is fairly dark in colour anyway. I always liked the suntanned look of white toast, when I used to eat it, and would get it as brown as I could.

I absolutely love the stripey toast! I'd have to cut along the stripes to make soldiers to have with a boiled egg though, as it would feel wrong to cut across the stripes! :eek:

That actually sounds pretty good. I may have to try it--with my own modifications, of course

My family owns a VERY high-end toaster oven. It toasts great. expect...On one side, you get those nice little lines, but on the other, you get nothing because that side isn't attached to any sort of metal contraption that would assign such lines. So, I have to be okay with the fact that one side may look completely different from the other. Hmm...
 
My toast has to be well browned and crunchy. I don't like soggy toast, and I don't like butter.
 
Medium brown, but has to be perfectly even. Best way is to toast it on the lowest setting, then turn the bread around and upside down and toast it again. A very little bit of butter, don't like it to get soggy, and a light sprinkle of cinnamon and sugar before the butter has completely melted.
