Tomorrow is my first day

Mattymatt

Imperfectly Perfect
Well, tomorrow is my first day at G4S for the required two days of state mandated security guard training. Then on Thursday, I take the state security guard test, G4S sends the results to the state, and I can get started. I have been assigned to the New Castle County Airport on the 3pm-11pm shift which works for me because I am not really a morning person and I like doing security work at night. I don't know if it is full time just yet but they tell me it most likely will be. From what I understand there are two guards on per shift and they take turns doing rounds. One does a tour while the other mans a security desk. This sounds like it will be a good way to get back into the work force. At least I have to have some hope that it will be.

Back at an airport again. Have airplanes always been a thing with you? Have a pleasant first shift!

I didn't plan on being at an airport. It's funny how things kind of worked out that way. I like planes and trains. I wouldn't mind working out of a rail yard.

My husband ran the duty free warehouse at Dulles Airport in DC. He really liked it. He says
"Working at the airport is cool! There was a sense of community back then." He said even the security guards were laid back and cool and fun to hang out with. I hope it hasn't changed in a bad way since 9-11 and that you enjoy it too.

1st day came and went and I am exhausted. I've had enough of people for one day. Just happy to retreat into the comfort of my own apartment. Pheeew!

Thank you, @Autistamatic. Yes, the day did go well because I ended up being the only one in the training class. I think the instructor appreciated it as well because we flew through a lot of the material. At the end, he said it was nice having someone with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. He ended up throwing me a little extra bone since he needs people that have an armed license for the occasional special event. The operations manager said next week I can go through firearms training so I can upgrade to the better license right away. That was a pleasant surprise.

Fantastic news! I am not pro-firearms - I've shot guns in ranges and it can be tremendous fun but I'm glad they're illegal to own here. Where you are though, I'd rather be armed in a security position! If it means more opportunities then all the better. Good on you mate :)

I am pro-responsible gun ownership. By that I mean people that have undergone training and have no criminal history.

Congrats man and good luck.

I think this kind of work for an autistic person has to be very stressful. I can't imagine myself doing it.
