Tractor Trailer Driving

Mattymatt

Imperfectly Perfect
I decided to give tractor trailer driving one more go because I am absolutely sick of living in poverty, never having money, and never being able to get ahead. Either I am completely insane or I am just not one to give up - I think I will chose the former. I applied to Schneider to get back into the game. They have an optional 18 day training that I can take without having to sign a contract so I chose to do it. It's been a few years since I've been behind the wheel of semi so a little refresher might be in order. I have a few loose ends to tie up this month so I set my start date to July 3rd. The nice thing about the major carriers is that they're desperate for drivers so as long as you have a pulse and a Class A CDL, they want to talk to you. This is a unique kind of position because I will be hauling freight for one customer, Home Depot, and they fly us to and from the starting point so no relocation is necessary. Also, it is a mid-west freight lane so I will be hitting Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and Kansas. I hopped all over it because there is no East Coast or West Coast.

Lol, I currently work for Home Depot. The driving in those states is bound to be beautiful, open road, and much more calming then the Midwest, or either coasts. I am so happy for you!

You guys know that companies are so desperate for drivers that they will not only pay for your training, but pay to go to training? Check it out. Back when I got into the field in 2015, they would pay for your schooling but not pay you to go to school.

I've often said that truck driving seems like a fun job. I always enjoy exploring different areas, have a fun time with this.

It's fun in the mid-west where the roads are flat and wide open. City driving is a bit stressful and I hate driving on the coasts. The best runs are up and down the mid-west. South of Chicago, north of Florida, and west of Atlanta is just fine with me.

So Matt, are you going to be able to do it? Have you heard anything? I'm wishing you luck!!!

Hi Lucy. Yes, I got the offer letter via email. Everyone is so desperate for drivers that all you really need is a Class A CDL and a pulse. I believe I am going to be able to do it. I am in a lot better physical and mental health than I was the last time I was doing it. I am finally below 300 pounds for the first time in a very long time. I really want to be 190 but that will come in time. I am really thankful for the weight loss surgery I had. It's opening up some doors previously closed to me.

Oh that's great Matt! Good luck with the weight loss, sounds like you are doing great as shown by your lower blood sugar. Hope you have fun driving and keep us posted- so glad you are able to do what you want !

I wanted to get started right away but I have some doctors appointments at the end of the month. When you get hired on as a truck driver, you first go to orientation and training. I decided to ship out to orientation on July 3rd. I don't mind working over a holiday. Holidays are just another day in my book. :-)
