Travelling

Do you guys love travelling around the world? I've been to a lot of country in European union, Great britain, USA and Chile in South America. What about you?

I hate traveling, but I love to have traveled.

I've been to England several times (I had a bf there for six years), and traveled throughout that country. I've visited Scotland, France and Spain on holiday. I spent a week once on the east coast visiting New York City, Washington D.C. and Philadelphia. I've traveled by car from California through Arizona (went to the Grand Canyon), New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee. I got as far as Memphis and visited Graceland because that's what you do in Memphis. Yosemite National Park is practically in my back yard, so I've been up there a zillion times, as well as making treks to Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, which are not too far away. And, let's not forget, the greatest city of them all, San Francisco! I've been traveling up there for vacations all my life.

There are many more places I'd like to see, and several places I'd like to revisit. As I said, though, I hate the act of traveling. It is only in retrospect that I enjoy it. Due to my dependence on routine and need for familiarity, I can become very uncomfortable while traveling. This makes it difficult to plan a trip and get going. Once I'm in to it, I'm committed and have to deal with it. Then, once it's over and I'm home again, I look back on it fondly.

I've been travelling the world for nearly all of my adult life. Most days I love it and find it invigorating, though after a while I do get homesick, and worry about how my garden is doing without me.

I've not seen you before, Irkoutsk, so I'll tell you I'm the NT partner of an Aspie who is also on the forums. He (Nadador/John) also travels nearly constantly, and I think he loves it more than I do. Sadly, we're rarely in the same place at the same time, but at least our adventures make for endless things to talk about.

We've both been all over Europe, the States and Canada, Australia and New Zealand. I've seen only bits of Africa, Asia, and South America, while he's been throughout all three. John prefers the more un-developed corners of the globe, and finds their plain-spoken ways easier for him to process. Me? I'm more for high-context, modernised cultures, but maybe some of this is a fear of not fitting in. And accommodations. I like to be very comfortable whilst travelling.

I believe travel makes us better and more open-minded people. It's made me a better cook, musician, writer, and artist as well. I can see where travel might be hard on some AS people, but I would encourage it for the learning experience. The Aspie ability to make uncommon observations and associations makes going places with John fascinating to me. I've gone on a couple of trips with him to places I'd been many times before, and in each instance I've come away feeling as though I'd been someplace entirely new.

Czech Republic is wonderful!
Yes. The only thing I didn't like about the experience haves nothing to do with the country. It have to do with the bus tour company used for the trip. I will never do one of those again. Maybe I do a short tour for like a few hours but not for a whole trip. There many places I wish I could have seen that was not in the tour. One of the stupidest things with this tour company, the world cup was going on and we drove though Germany. The only aloud use to be in the area for 20 minutes. They could have made a lot more money if they made part of the world cup as a half day or day event.

I've been through over half the states in the USA, but I haven't had a chance to go out of the country. I would LOVE to go to Europe and the UK. If I ever do, it'll be by boat. I'd rather take my chances with sharks and bed bugs than with airport security.

You know, there's a safe country near you that you can visit without the help of planes or boats. :mapleleaf:

I go by cities rather than countries: London, San Francisco, New York, Kansas City, Ottawa , Toronto, Minneapolis, Calgary, Chicago, Sacramento...and technically Denver, Seattle, Portland, and Vancouver. (List soon to be growing. :airplane:)

I've not been outside this city since January 2012. That's much too long.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

-Mark Twain

Although traveling stresses me out a little, it's a good & necessary type of stress for me: I bought my first round-the-world plane ticket back in 2000, took seven months off to do it and I have been hooked ever since. I've since been to six of the seven continents and am working on a trip to Antarctica in the next couple years so that I can check 'visit all seven continents' off of the bucket list.......

I love travelling. But I hate travelling with others. 24/7 is way too much for me.
Connecting with people during travels is tricky. But I'm a culture expert so I treat it as a kind of studies.

I prefer to walk the streers, go to park etc.

I travel mainly in Europe but I love Asia. I was in Indonesia and Japan. If I'll have more money, I'll go to Asia again.

I have been to Monaco, France, Jersey, Germany, Belgium, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Greece, Iceland and USA.
