Trying Not To Become

Riley

Well-Known Member
I tend to try and suppress parts of myself in fear of becoming what I hate. What do I hate? Social justice warriors, leg/neckbeards, Comic Book Guy...

Imagine I'm my usual hyper, weird, chipper, borderline-offensive self. Then you show me something like "Traits Of a Legbeard/Neckbeard." Bam. I shut down. Stop acting Riley-normal. Even see myself as horrible.

This makes me curious as I have a beard, and it grows under my chin and if I don't trim it creeps to my neck like Abe Lincoln.
At times I literally have growth to my Adam's apple. It doesn't grow high on my cheeks.
Why do people dislike this unfortunate hair placement so much. And I like batman! Am I one of "those neck beards"? I mean I guess I literally am?

No it doesn't. It means you have good taste. I'm always glad to meet Batman fans on this site. Though I'm pleasantly surprised at how non-judgemental you guys are about me liking Batman & Robin. Like, most normal people hate it to the point they blame the Aurora Theater Shooting on it.

I wouldn't say you have a neck beard. My husband's beard grows under his chin too. I've always thought of a neck beard as someone who can literally only grow a beard under their chin. My sisters boyfriend is one. No hair grows on his face, where you would typically expect a beard, only under his chin and on a little of his neck. I don't like the term personally, as I've only ever heard it to describe people at comic cons who are typically loner types who are really into certain things and many of whom at least come across as being on the spectrum/have some mental health problems.

I have no clue what a legbeard is though. Never heard that before.

Most guys I've known like myself all have beards that go to their adam's apple. Even when I occasionally have a beard, I still had to shave my neck. Wasn't interested in going "au naturel" in that regard.

Though when it comes to shaving I recently went "retro", going back to double-edged safety razors and blades, using the cheapest shaving cream possible for a much better shave. Eight cents a blade (Derby) for even two superior shaves without blood and razor burn that occurs on my neck so easily.

People who don't like beards that grow south? Meh. Whatever floats your boat I guess. I wasn't given a choice over such a thing.

I wish I could grow a beard, I haven't shaved for a month and all I have are a few long hairs on my top lip and chin.

I could not grow a beard until I was about 27. No mustache possible until I was about 31
On a personal note, I didn't get armpit hair until around age 23, and my chest is virtually hairless naturally, still, at 35.

I enjoyed that film. I liked seeing Arnold doing what he does best. Playing someone "over-the-top". And I liked the somewhat dysfunctional relationship between Bruce Wayne and Dick Grayson. And Batgirl, who rivals them both in attitude.

It's Batman...not "Bridge On The River Kwai". Fiction not based on fact. Though in the Christopher Nolan film I did like it when Bruce Wayne smirks about Batman and claims such a person "clearly has issues". LOL

Either way though, love or hate it, it's entertainment. Hopelessly subjective.

I had to start shaving at 13. When I was in the Army I got fussed at for not shaving hours after I shaved. Now that I don't have to shave I don't.
