Trying to connect with those I don't

The Penguin

Chilly Willy The Penguin
For those who knows me well, I'm a person that doesn't connect well with society. This is one problem with this though. Because I'm starting a business, I need to make some changes in my mindset if I want to succeed in life. I decided the best route for me is to connect with people that is into the norm and trends to share inside information for me. These people are not hard to find as there are so many of them. Why this is very important is it will help me find customers.

I do know most people don't connect with the business society so I'm trying to think how I can expand on this post with something that you may relate to. Maybe you need to learn how to connect with people you don't connect well with to get access to a service that you need. For this example, the best approach would be to have someone to advocate for you. I have done this many times to get access to many services I need. One example, I had someone to help with my human rights case and best of all, it was at no costs.

My long term goal is to find people that I do connect well with and stay connected with those people. This way, I don't need to be too dependent to connect with people that I don't connect well with.

I totally get what you're saying. Sounds like a very good- and very realistic plan. I've been uncomfortable with the "marketing" end of any business venture I've ever been involved in. But also realized that there was no way to completely eliminate it either. It's just one of those you have to negotiate to some degree, rather than run away from it. In some cases you might be able to delegate such things to other people, but at other times you have to do it yourself.

That's essentially what I did as well. Stayed connected mostly with the people who not only helped me the most, but those who sincerely wanted to help me.

You are spot on, Penguin, because when one wants to achieve something that is out of the "comfort zone", one has to expand their thoughts.

I have spent my life around nts and have learned a few social cues.

It is not just aspies who have trouble though. My husband who is clearly an nt is not successful in his line of business ie being a gardener. He has too many clients and not enough money coming in, which means he defeats his own object! I on the other hand, know the principle behind being successful, but lack in so many areas, that I do not even go there, but because I learn by observing, I can help others.

NT's seem to work that the higher you charge, then better your quality of work ie you are worth your weight in gold and so, people will scramble for what you are offering. But also the cheaper the product, they scramble to!

My husband has this one client who is an eye man ( his work is looking after people's eye sight). He is very rich and hires my husband to look after his garden. He treats my husband as a servant, who is not even deserving a smile! My husband had to put his price up but, no doubt, was groveling rather than assertive; ok he got his rise, but no respect. Then several year's after that, he once again asked for a raise the this client had the audacity to say that my husband gets above the low wage earner and does not deserve more. For once and no doubt, with a burst of indignation, my husband stood his ground; the result was he got his rise and: the client started noticing that Jem (hubby) does not always stop for lunch - wham respect enters!

I would advise ones who are setting out to first find out what the general public think of your product and to have some clients already in the offering or at least pending. Next is what is the competition like? No good setting up a business, if you have someone offering something that is better and bigger than your own! NT's tend to be pretty ruthless. So you need to find a balance between being partially ruthless but maintaining justice.

People are attracted to things that are either free or very low priced. Bigfish games comes to mind! They whet your appetite for the game, so you get to play for an hour and then, just at the point it gets interesting, your time is up! So are you going to just shrug your shoulders and not care? Or are you going to contemplate buying the game? Here is the excellent business strategy to my mind. The prices are BRILLIANT; usually at least the ones I have, less than 5 dollars or something and so, even cheaper, when paying in sterling lol And that is not all! You pay for one game and they give you credit and so, you can buy another with that credit. I have many games and most of them are paid by my free credit? Are they poor? I do not think so!

You have to make up your mind the target you want to reach. Do you want to be very rich or just comfortable? If you want to be rich, you have no choice, but become pretty nasty because that is called the NT world! If you want to be just comfortable, you then can think what is best for the customer.

I always maintain that if you are selling something, that prices should be kept down. Yes there is always the possibility of why is it so cheap? Because the majority will grab hold of a bargain.

It is different if you are offering a service to some one, like gardening etc. It leaves me dumbfounded that people have no problem paying lawyers outrageous costs and yet, doing menial work, is only worth not even a fraction of the cost!

The bad news is that even those of us who have spent years being around nts, leaves us drained! I cannot get my head around the way they think; it slams in my face how nasty and unfair and cruel they can be! I feel such a sense of relief when I come on here!

Unfortunately, Penguin, NTs are VERY good at sarcasm and mockery but by their tone, not their face and it is like you are an idiot if you do not catch on or they are laughing at you, because you couldn't read them! Some are far worse than others!

I wish I could say it is going to be tons easier than you think, but I cannot pretend and tell you it is going to be great, when it isn't! It is better to be well equipped to handle it sometimes. But if you have people who will talk for you, that is wonderful!

You are amazing!

I'm connected with many people and organizations that gave me tons of support. Even this morning. In 15 minutes I meeting with someone will help me with social media for my business for not cost. I want to write more but need to head to my appointment. You always give good responses for my posts.

I want to let everyone I did got this task done today and they did a wonderful job. I'm not sharing the link for personal reasons, but I already got some people liking my page.

Yes, social media can be very helpful. I know one DJ that had to create a profile on Facebook recently because people never knew about his events. He hated FB and didn't want to join it, but he understood that if one wants to promote his business, it's a good place for it, regardless his personal opinion. Plus, you don't need to interact directly with people there, that is already a nice thing! And the fact that it's used by people all over the world and has a good sharing system, I think it could be pretty helpful for promotion purposes..

I don't know what your business is about and if Facebook would be of help, but I wish you all the luck and hope everything will go well! :)

P.S. I was about to post it but then noticed your last phrase in the last comment where you mention liking your page... Probably you meant FB.. I think I wrote a useless comment here, hehehe. Sorry! But anyway, good luck with your business, Penguin! :fourleaf:

I'm developing mobile apps. On top of working on my business, there are things I'm helping people in the community for free. These people want to share this on FB so I decided I should make an account. From the social media class offered in the business program, it not about the business, but about helping people. Example giving people free advice. It not about sell, sell, sell. Everyone wants to sell but if a person focus more on helping people, within time, people will want to buy.
