I have an account on Twitch and I stopped by one of these streams for a few minutes. The basic idea is that every button input in the game is dictated by the chat, so the goal is to make it through the game as quickly as possible.

Yeah, I got that part, I just didn't quite understand the point of it in the first place (although I do find the idea of the guy in the game just kind of mindlessly going in circles due to people just putting in random commands kind of funny in a "theater of the absurd" way).
 
The point is to have fun, really. There's no deeper meaning to it---it's just a newly-devised kind of stream that puts even more emphasis on chat interaction with the broadcaster.
