Ultra-Capacitor replacing vehicle battery diesel

This is one of my special interests.....

In my 2008 F450 6.4L PowerStroke Diesel, I have replaced the passenger side battery with a bank of ultra-capacitors that provide all the amperage to the starter. I learned a ton while doing this. I'll try to attach a video that I made.

This is a picture showing the initial charge up to 2.3v, for the the initial charge the ultra-capacitors are connected in parallel and then reconfigured into series to make things look like a 12v type of vehicle battery.

I do the same thing for the UPS on my server. We get short, but frequent power outages and they just destroy the SLA batteries you normally use in UPS's in a matter of weeks. I've had to replace the batteries about every 3 months until I switch to UltraCaps. Now I'm going on 4 years now and it still working flawlessly with no signs of degradation.

BTW: If you look at the red LEDs to the right of my caps. That's the charge balancer for the caps. It's best to have one to avoid going over the 2.5 volt limit of the caps.

Ultra caps are great to play with. I use them as a teaching aid when I coach people for their Intermediate Ham radio licenses. :)
