I just saw a news article online saying about they're going to block out the sun to cool the planet? Call me dumb for believing this but I just need reassurance that they surely aren't actually going to do this.

I didn't even think it was the sun that causes global warming, it's humans. And they can't make us live in the dark forever, surely? Trees and plants would die. Sunlight is very important, without it the planet wouldn't survive properly.

So is this just false news, or are they really ignorant enough to actually go through with this? My anxiety has reached the roof even thinking about this.

In this instance it's best to focus on what is actually being reported, and by numerous major news sources.
Only that this issue is being researched. That doesn't necessarily mean it's scientifically viable.

The only "truth" at this time being that the idea is being explored by a select group of scientists. Filter out anyone who is prepared to sensationalize it at this time.

There's no telling how much scientific research is routinely conducted that ultimately goes nowhere.

But this is how a lot of research is funded. Where the research is explained in a very cursory manner largely to attract speculators willing to invest on a longshot. Leaving mostly hardcore venture capitalists to invest on a losing proposition and be able to still absorb the loss to invest in the next longshot.

My understanding is that the world elites that recently gathered in Davos are interested in such a solution. No response yet from those countries that depend on the sun to feed their people.

My personal apolitical response is that these whack jobs just might be arrogant enough to give it a whirl. Science has made a pretty poor showing of late, so many people will have trouble trusting what a group of scientists says.
