A star of The Undateables has won an unlikely fan base after viewers launched a petition calling for him to be the next presenter of Top Gear.
Car-mad Alex, 22, from Kent initially appeared on the show a year ago fearing his autism would hold him back in his quest for love.
However when producers caught up with him in the latest series of the unlikely dating show, his love of automobiles grabbed fans' attention.
Now they are campaigning for the unlikely candidate to be the new face of Top Gear, after all three presenters walked out last year following Jeremy Clarkson's dismissal from the BBC Two show.
The original trio - Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond - are set to launch their own motoring show this year, while Chris Evans will be the face of Top Gear's relaunch in May.
Some die-hard fans of the show reacted in horror at the news last summer, branding it 'the end' of the show, which regularly pulled in audiences of 4 million during its heyday.
But now it seems one fan - Jake Tasker from Lutterworth, Leicestershire, has come up with a solution.
A petition started earlier this week entitled 'Get Alex from the Undateables to present Top Gear' addressed to 'everyone' and 'BBC' is nearing 10,000 signatures.
The page, on change.org, reads simply: 'Top Gear is doomed, but I believe that Alex can save the series and with your help we can make this dream a reality.'
Alex, who drives a Vauxhall Corsa, won viewers' hearts when he first appeared on the show in January 2015.
Alex took Eloise, 21, from Surrey, left, to a motor racing circuit, Brands Hatch in Kent for their first date and the pair are still going strong a year later
The car enthusiast said that his dream ride would be a Bugatti Veyron Supersport that went from nought to 60 in 2.5 seconds.
He had never had a girlfriend or even a date before, but he managed to win Eloise's affections during a day out at Brands Hatch, a motor racing circuit in Kent.
The 21-year-old from Surrey is also autistic and a year on their romance has stayed strong. The pair recently enjoyed a holiday together in the Loire Valley, France.
And evidently viewers think his love of automobiles makes him the perfect person to front Top Gear.
Fan Andrea Ratcliffe, from Poole, said: 'He deserves a chance and to show others with autism you can achieve anything,' while Tom Wisley simply wrote: 'Alex is a ledge.'
Deanna Martin said that the contestant had a 'natural talent and charisma,' adding that he was 'a million times nicer and more entertaining that Jeremy Clarkson'.
'Alex will bring enthusiasm, a different view on the motoring world, road tests around Eastbourne and the greatest moustache on TV,' wrote Mike Warren, from London. 'A wonderful guy that has set twitter alight with his all round nice guyness.'
Jasmine Kirby from Grays wrote: 'I'm signing here because I think it would be extremely refreshing to have someone with these sort of conditions that loves his cars and obviously has a passion for speed to get involved with a program that is normally so stereotypical. Why not?'
