Paige Nicks has made it to the finals of Miss Galaxy.

A WALSALL woman says she wants to raise awareness of the condition she has after making it to the finals of a national beauty pageant.

Paige Nicks, 21, struggles to make friends and has nonverbal social queues due to having Asperger's.

However the South Staffordshire College Cannock Campus GCSE English student from Brownhills says she now hopes to inspire other Aspies after beating hundreds of candidates to make it to the finals of Miss Galaxy, a pageant for aspiring models aged between 19 and 29.

"I am really excited to make it to the finals. When I submitted my application I didn't think I would get very far. I was in complete shock when I found out I had got to the finals," she said.

"Asperger's is something that affects me a lot. It is a life-long condition so I do think it is a massive accomplishment and I am very proud of myself.

"Now I have done this I want to inspire people with autism and Asperger's to become more confident. Hopefully they will see what I have done and understand that they, too, can be confident about themselves. Of course I will be very nervous for the finals though. I am going to be representing Walsall."

Paige now has months to prepare for the big final at The Park Hall Hotel on Friday, February 5 next year.

Should she be successful she is in line to win a host of prizes including a trip to Florida for the Galaxy International final, a £250 voucher for a pageant dress from The Dress Studio, a personalised bag from Vanity Bags of Sparkle, a bouquet of flowers and a gift voucher from La Sweet Boutique, an Aurora Band and Younique 3D Fiber Lash from Hello-Gorgeous UK and a Pamper Hamper courtesy of Ambi Gift Hampers.

And she will be kept busy in the meantime.

She added: "The finals isn't really something you can practice for. I will have to do an interview, then evening wear modelling, a fashion section and a bikini round. I will be doing charity work while I wait though. I want to visit hospitals and raise money for a cancer charity."

I don't understand the second line.
This part---"has nonverbal social queues due to having Asperger's."
The use of the word "queues" has me mystified.
It doesn't seem to mean a line of people. But the other
meaning, a stash/line up of information,
doesn't make any real sense to me either.

Can somebody explain to me the use, in this article, of the word "queues"?
If 'issues' were substituted, I could understand the sentence, but I am not
just going to stick my own words in there and say...aha now I understand.o_O

I believe it should be 'cues' not 'queues', its likely that the word was confused as they sound exactly the same when spoken.

That was my first impression, too.
But thinking that didn't help.

Because if she 'has nonverbal social cues'-----
how is that a difficulty due to her being Aspie?o_O

It's likely that the writer meant that the contestant has difficulty reading nonverbal social cues, yet didn't write it out, or the article was rewritten later for word count and the most essential parts were cut from the article.

That bit had me confused as well. I was able to excuse the "queues" as a typo, but having non-verbal social cues is confusing. Maybe another typo, meant to read "has trouble with non-verbal social cues".

She is quite attractive. Best of luck to her.
