Want to start buying glasses regularly

. . .

I want to start getting a new pair of glasses every year. I already bought a pair of glasses this year but I want to get a backup pair (or, perhaps a primary pair and make the frames I just got my backup pair).

I think I'll try to get at least one new pair of Italian-made designer frames per year rather than getting multiple cheap, generic-looking frames per year. I think looks are important when it comes to glasses. Quality is just as important; I don't want my glasses to fall apart.

Italian-made frames always cost much more than Chinese ones, but it's true what people say about them tending to look better than Chinese-made ones. I think the main problem with Chinese-made frames is that they tend to be made of cheaper materials than Italian ones. The glasses I just bought are Chinese-made and happen to be very nice and seem to be of high-quality but this is very much likely because they're made of high-quality Italian acetate. Most plastic Chinese frames are made of Chinese acetate which tends to be of low quality.

Right now I've narrowed down the frames on my "to get" list to just two pairs:

I want to get at least one of the above pairs this year. I wouldn't mind getting both pairs eventually, though I'm not sure if either will still be around next year. They're very expensive frames, but if I buy them online I'll be able to get them much cheaper than I would at an eye-care center. And if I'm able to successfully refer people to the glasses site I want to get them from and have them buy at least one pair of frames I'll be able to save tons of money on them (or even get them for free, though I kind of doubt that I'll have much luck with referring people). For every person you refer to the site who buys a pair of frames, you get $50 worth of credits which can be used towards glasses, contacts, or anything else on the site . . . which is pretty damn awesome. I know of various ways that I could get lots of referrals, but I've no idea how many people would bother buying a pair of frames.

If I go through with getting both frames I might make one of them into sunglasses by putting tinted lenses in them. Which ones do you think would look better as sunglasses?

Anyway, right now I'm leaning a bit more towards the amber tortoise frames. If I get one of the pairs soon, it'll probably be those.

Sounds awesome,
But just curious: Why Italian, specifically? Did not realize they were known for nice glasses.

Pretty much the only two countries that manufacture glasses are China and Italy. China manufactures 90%-95% of them and Italy manufactures most of the rest.

Well, when you run out of glasses styles, you can always get some of these and replace the lenses:

I assure you no one around you will have them.

Correct me if I'm wrong...so you can buy frames online and then put the lenses in at an eye center? I just thought lenses had to be individually matched. I've never worn glasses so I have no clue how it works. But I do love the green frames btw, that's more my cup of tea. Brown are nice as well but less playful, more settled...not sure if you know what I mean by that :) they are definitely a safer buy. anyway it would be nice to see all those on your face :)

You can do that if you want. But what tends to be cheaper is to just get the people on online glasses sites to put the prescription lenses in for you. Glasses at eye care centers are insanely overpriced.

Do they make glasses without corrective lenses? I'd sport a pair, something like this...

Aillas did you buy any of the glasses that you posted?

I currently have two pairs of glasses one with a thin lightweight frame and the other with a thicker frame. My old pair had a titanium frame but I don't use them anymore. Both current pairs are scratch resistant and have a special anti-glare coating, which is great for watching TV or when using the computer.

No. There's higher priority stuff that I want to get before getting glasses.
