Watching Mr. Bean

If you've ever watched Mr. Bean, you'll remember the weird guy who tries really hard, but inevitably ends up with a turkey stuck on his head.

It's very funny, but also educational. Here's what I learned from watching:

1. When you make a weird social error, don't try to hide it. That just makes it worse. Full steam ahead!

2. You can be weird as all heck, and still be entirely lovable.

3. Doing things your own way is often ok, even if other people don't understand why you do things that way (as long as you don't end up with a turkey stuck on your head).

4. Being lonely while trying to awkwardly interact with others really stinks.

Yeah, I used to like watching Mr. Bean when I was a kid; he could be hit or miss at times, but generally I got a good giggle out of him.
I always remember the episode where he gets an armchair home on top of his car and then later tries to pain his room all at once, but both don't end well:

I could almost imagine myself trying the chair thing, being really unlikely to ask for help, even when I obviously need it.

I like this one, mainly because of the way the "normal guy" looks at him. I don't carry live sardines, but I get that look a lot:

I loved Mr Bean. I especially remember the episode where he goes to the dentist and starts drilling his own teeth.

A few times in my life people have said I reimind them of Mr Bean, the default public face that I most often wear is a similar silly smile.

I'm a huge Rowan Atkinson fan. I loved him in the Blackadder series, but I knew him first as Mr. Bean. My favourite episode was the one when he goes to the dentist.

I came across Mr. Bean quite by accident on CBC late one night, and the more I watched the more I enjoyed him. My favorite sketch is when Mr. Bean and his girlfriend go to see a horror movie and he thinks it's going to be awesome, but when the movies he gets terrified. Another one I liked is the Christmas episode where he's playing around with a nativity scene. That's the same one where he got his head stuck in the turkey. And he gave his teddy bear eyes for a present.

I love the nativity scene scene!

In our house the nativity scene actually includes cowboys, a mounty, and a brontosaurus, along with an ever changing cast of minor characters!

(who says you can't improve the Bible? Not me :) .

The animated series on ITV (later CITV) was pretty good as well, even if that series did pretty much confirm that Mr. Bean was an alien.

I was just watching some clips of him last night. He could be so diabolically funny.

I love the more educational and positive spin you put on the character! Just the other day I was comparing myself negatively to Mr. Bean on here, coming across as lost and confused and resorting to some outlandish tactics to get by. But I love the metaphors for being yourself.

Anyway, random Mr. Bean trivia! Anyone know Latin? His theme tune at the start of every episode is "Ecce homo qui est faba" which is "Behold the man who is a bean" in Latin.

At the end of every episode, the theme is "Vale homo qui est faba" - "Farewell man who is a bean."

My favorite is Johnny English Reborn.

Ohh... I also like Mr Bean's Holiday
I really love the first Johnny English movie (as well as the Mr. Bean TV show), but while the sequels had some great gags, on the whole they felt inferior.

My favourite scene in Johnny English reborn, is the chase sequence where the villain does outlandish stunts while Johnny... Takes the stairs or does other minimum effort actions.

Johnny English Strikes Again has an incredible VR scene, where the VR training station he is on malfunctions, so he walks out of it without knowing, and performs outlandish stunts outside with the VR set still on his head, before returning to exactly the same spot and taking it off without noticing anything amiss.

Of course the first movie had the incredible coronation scene, but that was one of many highlights to me, while the other two films only had one great sequence (at least to me).

Mr. Bean's holiday was surprisingly good, though the TV show managed to cram in more gags in a shorter timeframe.

"Ecce homo qui est faba"

That's hillarious. In the middle ages, woodcuts of the crucifixion where labeled "Ecce homo" - behold the man.

I need a "Ecce homo qui est faba" t-shirt!
