Website background colour

Can you change the background colour of websites? I have a blue filter overlay for Irlens syndrome but it obscures text. Id like a change of colour underneath rather than over the top..

I have seen a couple of sites that offered an alternative background colour but am not sure if all do. I have not seen that option on here so far if they do.
 
I wonder if browsers offer that functionality. I know there's dark mode but it's not ideal
You can download add ons for Firefox that will give you that sort of functionality. I don't know of any off hand but I know some people use them. For me, I don't have any issues with default colours.
 
Dark Reader will make everything but the text much darker, if that helps. You can customize it to do quite a lot and it works for both Firefox and Chrome. Honestly, it looks great and I use it 100% of the time.

Now whenever I see people not using it, I have to shield my eyes :D
