Weird ads popping up in the ad boxes

I just saw an ad pop up, apparently Hollywood has made a Slender Man movie, and it will be out on August 10. Of course, if it's successful, there will still be Slender Man movies when today's infants are middle aged. And then there's the ad for a movie called I Feel Pretty, which features a woman dressed from head to toe in a stupid pink woman's business suit-including pink purse-and she appears to be dancing. What kinds of weird ads do you get? For some reason I get ads in Chinese, which I don't speak. I got an ad for Ford cars featuring a wall of Chinese.

I'm not sure how they work, but, if you've mentioned China, or movies, or Ford, anywhere on the net, those type ads will pop up. I searched for painting supplies, then paint ads popped up everywhere, and I don't usually use google to search, I use duckduckgo. Go figure. I saw a video about this guy saying that Google listens to you through the mic. He closed all browser windows, showed a paper that had dog toys written on it. He opened his browser, no dog toy ads. Closed it all again, then started saying dog toys in a semi conversation, mentioned a red Kong dog toy, etc., maybe 11 or so times. Opened up the browser again, went to a site, and there were dog toy ads on every page. I don't know if this was a gag video or not, it would be easy to replicate if you thought it out, and made to be believable. I tried it on my phone, it didn't work. Probably would have freaked me out if it did! But, websites are sneaky. I've visited sites and received junk mail from them the same week after not giving them my address, or any info. Thats invasive to me.

Do you know if there's one for Chrome Android? I was using Firefox, but it started acting up.
Hmm, google Chrome may be my ad culprit. Just thought of that.

Unfortunately, no; the Mobile version of Chrome doesn't support Extensions

If that video was legit, I can't imagine what sort of filth my Adblock is blocking. Probably a whole lot of religious ads...

They use cookies when you are searching for something.
I've been looking for on-line cheap eyeglass frames for some time now and every time I turn on the
computer all the pop ups are full of glasses.
Anything you're trying to find, they cookie you and fill the pop ups full of it.

As far as the junk mail box I get weird stuff like ads for Viagra and all sorts of "Male" enhancement things along with ads supposedly from sexy horny women who want me. Somehow they must think I'm a guy! o_O

I took the rather extreme step of setting my browser (Firefox) to delete all cookies when it closes. All of a sudden every site I go to can't find out where I've been previously. The liability is, and it will certainly be too much for many people, is that I have to log in every time I go anywhere (email, here, etc.). If your first reaction was "You must be kidding" you can stop reading now. :) If that doesn't scare you, it gives you vastly more control over who can track you. Since cookies are alive for a browser session, I will often close the browser and reopen it to delete all the cookies when switching to something else. Then the email program can't find out what product I was just searching for.

Two solutions:

1. get a VIP membership and/or
2. ad-block plugin of some sort (uBlock Origin works really well for Chrome)

I don't know what kinds of ads I'm getting here since ad-blocking has become a ritual of mine since the beginning of time, but I've given back to this site with a VIP membership that's worth every penny.
