If you do a little research, you can find that on many days of the year, there are interesting and unusual holidays and days that are dedicated to certain things which you probably wouldn't have heard of. For example, "Lost Sock Memorial Day" on May 5th :)

This is a thread to post interesting holidays and awareness days that are apparently a thing. Or you can even make up your own and put it on here! You find an unusual day which others may not have heard of (or make up one completely) and write the date and a little about what it involves.

This website is quite good for finding days: https://www.daysoftheyear.com/

National Hug Your Cat Day - 4th June (real but unofficial)

Hug Your Cat Day, sometimes referred to as National Hug Your Cat Day, is an unofficial holiday celebrated on June 4. It is a perfect opportunity for all cat owners to express a little extra love to their furry companions. The origin of Hug Your Cat is unknown, which is quite common for unofficial fun holidays.

Gorilla Suit Day - January 31st
Mad Magazine artist Don Martin created the idea of Gorilla Suit Day for a 1963 comic strip in which a character mocks the holiday and is then assaulted by gorillas and people in gorilla suits. Since that time, the holiday has been semi-celebrated every year by fans of Mad Magazine and Don Martin by dressing up in a gorilla suit.

Cow Appreciation Day - 9th July
Cow_female_black_white.jpg

1995 marked the beginning of the cow revolution, when herds of beef cattle everywhere decided to take a stand for the future of the bovine race. Far more intelligent than the others, Heff R. Jones (now known as Eaton Birds) took his limited grasp of his owner’s language and painted “EAT MOR CHIKIN” on a billboard. With this daring move he set in motion a movement among cows everywhere, to encourage us to eat more chicken, so we wouldn’t be eating them. Cow Appreciation Day commemorates Heff (I’m sorry, we mean Mr. Birds) and everything he’s done for cattlekind.

8th June - 16th June: Love your burial ground week

Love Your Burial Ground Week was established to help those charged with the role of maintaining burial sites and to enforce the connection between churchyards and communities. It also offers people the opportunity to learn more about the history of local churchyards and to get involved in activities that celebrate and showcase the heritage of burial sites.
