Weird Enough

[I feel the need to write a disclaimer....since it is a thread about introducing me...I felt okay being long-winded. I figure I couldn't take over the conversation from myself. Right? If this is too long then you can click away....okay...just making sure.]

Hey everyone,

My name is Sylvia and I am JM. (Just myself) I don't know that NT or AS really describe WHO I am. Let me explain...(this should be read with some amount of humor.)

I DO like science fiction programs and literature within the fantasy genre. From what I understand, both the subject matter and act of withdrawing into books/movies/games for days on end is very AS.

But I thoroughly enjoy tactile sensations, and cannot sleep unless absolutely smothered in blankets and heat...which would seem to be more NT.....

I like things spelled out. My favorite word to use in conversation is either "Elaborate" or "Why"? I formalize friendships with a verbal contract (which doesn't often work out well. SURPRISE!). And I like exchanging long letters because it allows you time to think about what you want to say before you commit to each. and. ever. word. AS, right?

I don't have mindblindness. I have a very easy time sympathizing and empathizing. Seeing things from the other side. After all, I figure if I want things spelled out....so does everyone else. Wait a minute...(Not funny?)

I AM INTENSE. It's like my personality is stuck on CAPS LOCK (Why is the caps lock key not in all caps?) I paused for a few minutes here to stare at the "Caps Lock" key...Isn't that weird? So that's NT then...the intensity, I mean.

I'm charismatic and funny. (See above and below) I think, knowing that you are charismatic would be NT...

I interview very well and formalized judgment activities ( a.k.a. tests) don't make me break out into hives....NT?

I hate doing the same thing for very long. I have switched careers eight times because none of it seems satisfying or challenging after a while. It just gets.....heavy and boring. AS?

I am of average intelligence. There is nothing enhanced about my senses. (Why does sensibilities seem like a better word to use here?) NT....

I am both STRONGLY attracted and FIRMLY repelled by everything that is AS...opposites attract, right? But then again birds of a feather...hehe, now you're thinking about birds.

*SIGH I wish I knew more people who were JM...If this was remotely funny, reply! Can't ever have too many friends...keeping in mind that once someone becomes annoying, burdensome they are no longer friends by the rule of rectification of names...Yeah.

Okay then.

Sincerely,
Meghan

Attached please find a picture of a snail which I took at a botanical garden. Snails are cool and gross all at once.

Hi, welcome to Aspies Central!

About the thing where you like being "smothered" with blankets, I believe that actually is a fairly common aspie thing (some neurotypical people like it too). I like that as well. If you search online you can even find custom-made weighted blankets for people on the autism spectrum. They're a bit expensive though; I ordered one of these recently and found it to be a pretty nice low-cost alternative:

I had no idea it was so common. A quick search turned up tons of sites about buying weighted blankets and deep pressure therapy. One even hosts a blanket giveaway each month: DreamCatcher Weighted Blanket Contact Page.

Welcome, Ziggification! I read your responses on "True Friends" and I really liked how you handled that exchange with another member. You didn't say how old you were but you sounded like you have a pretty good head on your shoulders. I think even though we have different interests we have some things in common. You might say I am another "just me". I haven't been formally diagnosed but based on my childhood history my family doctor thinks I have Aspergers. I am quite a bit older than most people on AC, which I am, I guess, vain enough to think that I have a perspective of life that I did not have in my teens and which many of the younger ones here haven't yet achieved.
