Weird to a fault, but I like that

Hello everyone! New to the site! I was diagnosed as an Aspie in my mid 40s and while it explained a great deal about my early life, by making me aware that I was not neurotypical, by then I was not anything typical. I do not wish to say too much initially, but look forward to engaging here as soon as I scope out the lay of the land and feel more comfortable with the way the site operates. It might be interesting to meet and exchange experiences with others so that I do not feel so alien.

Of course that might never happen, because I have felt like an alien on a strange planet, practically since birth. I just shake my head at what goes on around me, for it all seems like people in general are all too self-involved and do not think about the consequences of their actions. I, on the other hand, ruminate almost constantly on things that bother me and that are more or less immutable.

Not that I am not involved with self, it is just that I have never been comfortable with who I am, but even so, I have had a very interesting life to this point.

That's all from me for now, perhaps I will find this site more conducive to my mindset than some other Aspie sites I have tried.

Hello & welcome.
I was diagnosed as an Aspie in my mid 40s...

Who was handing out adult diagnoses in the early '90s?

Hi and welcome, I hope you will enjoy it here. Yes I can relate to some of what you say, hard to fathom why people would act in certain ways, and yet they do...

There are good discussions here, you can start a thread on anything that you want, also check out the media and nblog sections and grab a virtual coffee and biscuit.

Odd story about how I received my diagnosis. I was married in 1984 and 7 to 10 years later, my spouse was a psych major, and they looked at me one day and said. I think you have Asperger's. At their pushing, I found a Female psychiatrist and made an appointment. I came away with a signed letter on her stationery confirming my spouse's offhanded diagnosis/suggestion.

I was completely clueless that the appellation that I earned in my youth of 'Weird' actually had some underlying neurological underpinnings. I just thought other people were weird and I was completely normal other than the occasional thought that I must have been deposited here by aliens from another planet. A common enough trait now that I have become a bit more enlightened about my inherited condition.

Thanks for your comments.

Hey there my friend glad you finally decided to join (smiling warmly )

Hi Richelle, I thought I was just unusual, until employers started wanting me to see a therapist. Welcome to the site.
