Well, confused. Could I have autism?

Hey all,

Bit of medical background: I am a 31 year old American Male. Diagnosed with ADHD around age 7 or 8 and have adult ADHD still. I have Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy - started about 15 years ago.

Fell down a youtube hole and saw a video of a perfectly normal, actually hot woman speaking normally and eloquently about how she found out and was diagnosed with Autism on the spectrum.

I have always been shy and awkward and never really had but 1 friend. I am awkward and anxious in social settings.

I will post the results of a fairly intense quiz I took and maybe they will make some sense.

What really is Autism and how could I more strongly cement the suspicion?

I am a good worker, make good money and about to have my first child in a couple months with my wife. I am happy.

But what are some things that would make me be able to explain to a doctor the basis of my suspicion?

Also, I am 31 and I made it this far? Is there any illness or anything wrong with me to fix? Is there a treatment for Autism?

Please see results below and help me understand what this and other quizzes are telling me...

Your neurodiverse (Aspie) score: 120 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 82 of 200
You are very likely neurodiverse (Aspie)

My wifes friend who is smart but kind of a raging ass taunts me and tells me I have autism to indicate I am an idiot and there is a whole story to that but... I dunno... I am confused. Could I be me and still be autistic? If so would knowing I have some form of autism help me in any way?

First warm welkome Andrew :)

Second ALL those on line tests are NOT meant as a diagnostic tool dear and only a professional evaluation team for Autism /ASD can determain if you indeed have ASD = Autistic Spectrum Diagnose

THIS said its not that uncommon for us with ADHD to actually also have ASD (infact its more or less the practice this days to have utliest two diagnosis (Ie useully ASD ) So if youre concerned about this its best if you contact a ASD evaluation professional

( I am a good worker, make good money and about to have my first child in a couple months with my wife. I am happy. )

Then i would say RELAX dear nothing too worry about needing fixing

( Also, I am 31 and I made it this far?

Is there any illness or anything wrong with me to fix?

Is there a treatment for Autism?)

Answer to youre questions are

if you have youre life in control DONT worry dear

ASD is NOT an illness so nothing to cure

NO there is no cure for this and you are BORN with this diagnose (same as ADHD )

And NOONE with Autism is dumb dear so inform youre wife's friend about this and ask her/him to check the Webb what Autism really is before throwing out this ridiculous statements

Just go to Google put in Autism and you and youre wife's friend will find a ALLOT of info reg this Heres a start ;) Autism - Wikipedia

I would add tell your wife and friends to become a member of this forum ! so they do not think everybody with autism is non-verbal ,sits on the ground and rocks !shock horror !some people can speak walk ,talk and live alone and/ or married.

Welcome to the Forums! I hope you make new friends and enjoy your stay in the process!

There's no treatment nor cure for Autism, it is a neurological disorder that's with you from birth til death. Many do wish there was such a thing though as they view their Autism as a curse, others as a blessing and wish to keep it that way.

Yes, there are people who're Autistic who look and act like your average everyday person. That's why it's called the Autistic Spectrum. It ranges from HFA (High Functioning Autism, such as a PDD-NOS) or Low Functioning which would be Severe Autism.

Yes, the only way to know for sure 100% is to have a Medical Professional evaluate you; preferably one who specializes in Autism.

Yes, you can still be yourself and be on the Spectrum, it is apart of you. It's not a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde style situation.

Also, your wifes friend seems to be emotionally abusive and I feel sorry if they have a spouse and/or children if they act like that towards them as well.

Can you be you and still autistic? Well, if you are autistic that IS you. I can tell you that no one here is going to think much of your wife's condescending friend for how she treats you and for her attempt to use autism as a negative. Everyone on this autism site is very intelligent - some way above average - and most are actually proud of their special traits due to the autism, like being a deeper thinker than most neurotypicals and so on. Maybe next time she says you're autistic, thank her for separating you from people like her. :)
Many autistic people are very successful so that's not a very useful guide in determining whether or not someone is on the spectrum. Do some research on the autism spectrum, look up high functioning autism and see how much you relate. And remember, it's a spectrum, so no 2 people are going to be alike.
Also, you asked if there's a treatment? Do you feel you need to be fixed as a human?
